I go 8 hours of sleep last night but I still woke up sort of tired.  I did a lot of activities yesterday: running in the morning, and riding my bike to work.  Riding my bike and  doing sit-ups and push-ups at lunch.. Running after work, and riding my bike home  Then I had to help move furniture that my wife purchased for the daycare.  We put it in my truck hauled it over to the daycare facility and put it in place.  Then before bed I did 400 sit-ups and 100 push-ups, so I can now see why I woke up so tried.

My legs were tired this morning so I ran by feel.  I did my Satterfield hill loop, and my legs didn't like going up hill this morning.  I really think I overtrained/exercised yesterday, because I remember going to bed with a headache and just dead.  Anyway,  I ran up the hill with a strong headwind so there was know easy thing about this run this morning.  Just when I thought I was going to have an easy run, but the easy run was hard and I wasn't really motivated.  I did get in some better splits later in the run.. I ran 11.21 miles at an overall 7:11 pace in 1:20, and I felt really tired after the run.

Then I rode my bike to work.  I will hopefully get in another run before my daughter's Fastpitch playoff game tonight.

 Lunch:

I had the opportunity to run on my lunch hour today, because my wife didn't need me to cover the hour at the daycare facility durning my  lunch.  Their count for kids was at a low ratio so the staff person I cover could go without me being there.   The state and city is really strict on this policy and our daycare doesn't abuse it whatsoever.  But there are so many that run above the ratio and limited staff that get away with it.

I ran 9.25 miles at an overall 6:50 pace in 1:02 and what was great is I ran two miles to the last to two miles of the Pocatello Marathon course and then two miles on the Pocatello Marathon course.  I love the last 6 miles of the Pocatello marathon course.  If you run it right it's a good and fast experience.  The last 4 miles I picked it up a bit  (6:33, 6:23, 6:09, and 6:35).  The temperature was 85 degrees but cloudy.

I feel like a total slacker after reading this. Unbelievable last two days for you! Great job!

Jim F - It's been a crazy two days, but I'm trying to get my fitness at an extreme level to do well in everything. You've had some good training as well.

Wow!!! You sure pack a full day. You are probably living 15-month years compared to my 13.5. I've been a slacker about the sit-ups and push-ups. I remember talking to you about it earlier and I was planning on having my day up to a lot more than the nothing that I'm doing now... Great day!

Adam RW - Sometimes I feel that I don't have a spare minute for anything and I have to plan every part of the day to make sure I put God, Family, and work first before running.

Sometimes I feel that lives moving too fast. Like for this marathon on August 30th, I've put in some really good long runs, but not a lot of speed work, and I really don't know how to train the last four weeks and really haven't been on a schedule. But I feel like I do need to do some track work before then, or would it do any good? But because my schedule is drawn in so many different places it's hard to stick with a training program.

I've ran four 21 miles the last four weeks. What would you do in my situation for the last 4 weeks? I have an idea, but this is why we blog to get advice and I'm humbled by anyone who gives advice no matter how many marathon's you've ran.

Kory, Thanks for the words of support on my blog. I agree people (especially on this blog) who run the miles we do while still making time for 2 or 3 other priorities are spread thin. It does make the time fly by. I'm shocked when I think that my daughter is already over 2-yrs old. I'm shocked when I think it is already '08. I'm shocked when I realize July is already more than half over. However, as long as we enjoy what we are doing I think it is worth it. As long as we are challenged and enjoy that chanllenge it helps round out our lives. I think that if you strive to get in those things that are important to you and maintain that balance you are on the right track. This is at least what I tell myself and it has worked for me so far.

For your marathon I would not worry about speedwork. Consistent training has seem to be the key for so many people on this blog. The last two marathons I've run I have done no more than 4 track workouts for either and I've PRed in both. Do I think speed helps, yes. Do I think speed is required, no. You may have a faster end result with more track work but I think that has to be earlier. The main thing for the last three weeks building up to the race is that you get rest and don't get injured... Through in pace miles once or twice a week for the next 2 or so weeks and then just get in a good taper with good amounts of relaxation and sleep (that's my advice).

Kory, I agree with Adam I don't think traditional speedwork will help you much at this point. Your base mileage and pace at which you run a lot of it will pull you through. I would caution just to avoid overtraining and get some easier runs in as well to avoid injury.

You are going to rock Poky again this year. I will probably run the half again and focus on Salmon (as a training run but going for the win as well if possible).

Jeff - I'm glad your coming down to run the Pocatello HM. I know you'll beat your time last year. You know the course well and will excel. It's too bad we couldn't pace each other on the last half. Jeff thanks for the advice about over-training because I think this has hinder me in the past to really breaking out in a marathon.

Adam RW - Thanks for your advice. The MP miles is what I thought too would be good, to maybe through in about 5 or 6 miles on the actual course. I was thinking on the toughest section which is the second half. Would you run any more 20 milers up to this point on the course? Your right about the relaxation I should really do an experience and really cut my miles the last two weeks and see what happens. Thanks for the advice it's very very helpful.
