I did get 8 hours of sleep last night but it was interrupted sleep by my 3 year old son and my daughter complaining that she was sick. My son just wanted the dog out of his bedroom, he's funny he doesn't like anyone or anything to sleep with him. I didn't feel too tired when I woke up just kind of weak.

This morning I did my long run on a very hilly course. The run was somewhat difficult, because the winds kicked up to 30mph, but the temperature was 35 degrees so that helped..

The reason that I've kind of been weak and dead on my runs this week is I'm starting to come down with something. Last night I felt just dead tired, weak, and my stomach was doing jumping jacks inside. I thought today if I had enough strength that I would do my long run, because I thought maybe I might feel worse on Saturday and won't be able to do it (when your systems analyst you have to analyze your future schedule). The performance this morning wasn't bad, and I did take it easy and not really push anything, other than I did some strides in the run to active the fast twitch muscle a bit. I ran 17.10 miles at an 7:18 pace in 2:04. I could have kept going, but I needed to be back for work. I'll probably run this evening to make it an even 20 miles for the day.

Evening:

We had parent teacher conference meetings tonight so I decided to do another run from our kids school to home after the teacher meetings. It started snowing on the way home so that made the run interesting, but the run was really uneventful. I had to avoid a lot of traffic on the way. I ran 4.22 miles at a 7:10 pace in 30:17 minutes.

I'm still not feeling the best. I feel weak so my immune system must be getting knocked out a bit. I'm hoping to feel better for the weekend, but I really don't have anything planned except Sunday so I should be able to get rest. Tomorrow I have to go into work early to be part of three interviews for a position that our Staff is looking to hire. That will take up most of the day.

Wow! What time did you get up or what time do you work that you can get a 17 miler in before? I am lucky to get 5-8 miles in before work!

From wheakory on Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 12:33:46

My works kind of flexible, I've already put in more hours than I needed to this week so I just went in late. I really can come in at anytime in the morning as long as I put in 8 hours for the day, or make it up on one of the other days. I'm usually at work by 8:30am during the week.

I have a hard time doing long runs on Saturday, because our kids have their sport activities so I like to do my long runs on Friday, but as I mentioned I'm kind of feeling under the weather so I ran the long run today.

That is nice to a flexible job that you can work around other things in life, instead of having to make life work around the job.

Good run today as well!

Sounds like you had a very full day. You should read the link about overtraining on my post from yesterday. I'm not suggesting that is what is going on, I just found it very motivating for getting the 8-hrs of sleep that it also looks like you've been getting this week...

From wheakory on Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 22:17:53

Adam this sounds like some of my symptoms, and it's a possibly that I'm. Next week I plan to cut my mileage back to see if rest will help. It does you no good to have high miles and feel fatigued. I believe it means you've past your peak, and reached a level of putting too much stress on your body. Also my lack of sleep lately could be a factor too. Thanks for directing me to that internet article that really was a lot help.

From Benn on Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 07:38:58

I can't imagine working like you and Adam do and still being able to log killer mileage. Makes me feel like such a slacker! heh :-D

Hope you get some sleep this Easter weekend. Best of luck and you're in my prayers.
