Another rest day and my Achilles isn't swollen anymore and has no pain. I'm still going to take an additional two days off and starting running again on Thursday. My wife has surgery on her hand on Wednesday so I thought Thursday would be a good day to see how the rest has helped.

I really feel like I'll be alright, but will see. My shape probably won't be in the best condition or in racing form but what can you do when the body needs to recover.

 PM.

Did 600 sit-ups and 200 push-ups tonight.  I used to do over a 1000 situps a day until I started running regularly.  I  stopped doing that many about four years ago.  I needed to do something today, because I ate like a pig.  I seem to eat more for some reason when I'm not running.  I can't wait to run again.  I bet I've gained about 3 or 4 pounds.

Kory,

I can't believe this short break from running will put the slightest dent in your outstanding fitness. This Achilles thing might be a blessing in disguise, as a few days of rest might be just what you need. We hear about the world class guys sometimes taking a week or two (sometimes more) completely off, or with just very light running. This can help recharge the batteries mentally as well as giving you a physical break. So I'm betting you won't notice anything, aside from possibly feeling a bit off the first run or first couple miles of the first run. And I hope the Achilles problem is completely gone by Thursday.

Thanks John K. I really think your right. I really haven't take time off from running for over 2 and a half years. I do think I was also mentally ready to take a break. I know my wife has enjoyed me not getting up early in the morning.

Hey Kory - hope the recovery is coming along; I hear you about the eating more when you don't run part. I have gained about 6 pounds this month of not running. I think it only adds to my feeling BLAH
