After getting home last night at 2:30am in the morning I got up after 9am and went for a run.  The temperature was 73 degrees not too bad.  I started slow with a 7:40 mile then picked it up a bit, because I was really hungry and wanted to get back home and fill my empty hole.  I gradually got faster 7:02, 6:45, 6:40, 6:29.  I wanted the last mile to be somewhere in the 5 minute range for the last one  5:50  It was a good run for being real tired, but it will be my only run today.

After work I'm going to ride my Tri Bike on the Pocatello Tri Course (12 miles), to get ready for Saturday.  Then tomorrow after work I'm going to do on last swim to feel somewhat confident.  This is not really a competiton for me I'm really doing it for fun, so I probably won't push the 5k that hard in the run.

This weeks running total won't be in the high range, but I could always use a step back week.  I always find myself pushing harder that my training is just not good enough for what I want to achieve.  I'm very disappointed that I haven't got more track work, but it's too late now for the Poky marathon.   Maybe a step back week will be the best training step I've taken leading into the August 30th marathon.   I think as a runner were always second guessing ourselves, that if I would have done it this way the outcome could have been better or worse.   Peaking at the right time is such a key factor in a race, and I really hope it will be for me on August 30th.

 Evening

I biked the Pocatello Tri course and average 20.5 mph over 13 miles.  I will count this as 4 miles because it felt like a four mile run.  The first 6 and half miles were in a stiff wind and it was tough.  Not much more to say but I'm tired.

I think you have a god shot at winning that marathon. Go for it. Have a great race this weekend.

Wildbull, Paul Ivory - thanks for the nice comments. I'm going to be humble in the race and do the best that God's given me.

I wish I could be there to do that one with you. I miss swimming oddly enough and biking. I'll be watching your report and cheering you on as I run the Provo river half. Now you'll probably have thoughts of me while your gutting it out! Sorry I hate putting my face in other peoples mental game. Im tired, time for bed.

Thanks Walter - It should be fun and challenging since I've never put all three together in a simulation before Saturday.

This is kind of a reverse TRI you start the Run first then the Bike and the Swims last.

From Walter on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 13:47:39

Ive done a reverse order tri and it is difficult. You are the strong runner there and remember, most of the competition is really good on the bike and swim. The run is usually done in 7 minute miles. So if you start out a bit stronger on the run, you can tire out the competition because they will be holding back for what they are good at. Good luck.

From wheakory on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 17:38:38

Walter - Figure I would put a good effort in the 5k, but not run at a 5k race pace so that I don't get tired for the rest of the transitions. Thank you for the wonderful advice. But then again if I do go out at race pace I might be okay. Because I feel real comfortable in the bike and swim portion.

I've really put some money in my bike with performance tires and rims. I think my bike weights now under 17 pounds.

From Walter on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 18:06:26

Putting money into a bike is easy. Its finding the cash to put into the bike thats hard! I did a sprint tri in American Fork which was reversed and I went all out on the run and took first on the run with about a 45 second lead. I got passed by 5 on the bike and 2 on the swim. I would recommend going all out on the run. If it were reverse order you would be going as hard as you could on the run anyway. Good luck, I wish I could do it with you.

From wheakory on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 18:11:23

Walter - I wish you could do it too. It would be fun, and I'll take your advice. I'm going to practice the swim tonight for one last time before Saturday.

When are you doing your next Tri?

From Walter on Thu, Aug 07, 2008 at 18:47:44

I got a double hernia so I cant swim or bike. I can barely run so im going to do St. George and then get my surgery. Ill concentrate on tri's next year. they are addicting! I however dont have a tri bike, just a 3 year old trek 5200 that does a good job. My swim did get alot better this year which is a bummer.
