Well, it was a beautiful morning in Chicago. As part of a long weekend visit with Diana's family, I marked another bucket list race off my list, despite running the Arkansas Traveller 100 Miler last weekend and logging exactly 0 Miles over the last 7 days!
I ran 3:14:26, good for 2,225 place overall, 1,958th male, and 402nd in my way too fast division.
I actually ran through the half at 1:29:38, hanging on for dear life to the pace group leader for as long as possible. However, finishing with him was not realistic.
At Mile 16, after running 6:50/mile with the pace group, I backed it way down and ran Miles 17-24 at 9:00/mile (still much faster than my CR AT100 pace!), which was necessary if I was going to finish without walking, cramping up, or worse.
I found a second wind and ran Miles 25-26.22 at sub-7:00 pace. Pretty proud of this because I could have packed it in and ran 3:20 or 3:30, which was my goal going in.
In the end, I'm glad I made the decision to go ahead and run today. Chicago is an amazing city, and we had a blast hanging out in Chinatown after the race.
