Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

I think you might be the Buddy Edelin of ultra training. Buddy and his coach, Fred Wilt, probably invented modern marathon training in the late 50s and early 60s.

I'm going to withhold my verdict until after your next 100, but I think you may have stumbled, accidentally or on purpose, onto the truth of ultra training.

I read a little about Edelin online last night, including a pretty good essay at the link below:

Anyway, thanks, Rob, because that's high praise. Have you read Murphy's "A Cold, Clear Day"?Would welcome your suggestions on recommended reading any time (not just Edelin-related).

I have read A Cold Clear Day. I like it because it's mostly about his training and lifestyle without a lot of extra fluff.
