Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

Impressive, Wesley! Your mileage is inspiring.

I'm planning to upgrade to ultras this year after a lot of road marathoning.

Any advice for the long runs on TM? (Do you throw hills in there, have music or device, etc.?)

Hey man, first, awesome run at the Huff! Putting that marathon background to work, eh?

Medium to long TM runs are my staple. I try to maximize *proper* running by locking in a moderate pace and relaxing for 75% of the run. For the last few miles, I gradually drop the pace and often finish with four striders during the final mile. Nothing groundbreaking...simple, efficient, and mechanical.

I usually alternate between sports talk radio (Dan Patrick Show in the morning, PTI in the afternoon, etc.) and CNN.

Finally, I minimize fueling and almost never use gels or solid food on TM, reserving those necessities for my rare, longer trail runs or racing.

Thanks! :) Gotta be honest, though - that 50k was a flat 30 miles, and any legit 50k is still a completely different animal than 100M.

Appreciate the tips! Thank you.

Keep up the amazing work.
