Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

What's next for you?

Second consecutive year in Western States lottery. So now I have something like a 10% chance of getting in...of course, that would be next summer, but perfect for me because I like longish training cycles with slow steady build-up for target race. No strong desire to race often and not realistic anyway. LR Marathon has asked me to pace the 3:05 group and my wife's cousins in Chicago want me to run that Marathon next October, but I'm undecided (even about pacing) and on the fence about how hard I want to push at the faster stuff. I ran 2:45 in October 2012, and that feels like a decade ago.

If you get into Western States you should come out here and do a week of training in the Wasatch.
