The treamill I used today (my usual and preferred Matrix treadmill was covered up) was really cranky and I couldn't get it off a -3.0 decline. Because I only had an hour, and every other freaking treadmill was being used, I simply hammered out 9.5 Miles progressing from a 6:30 pace (2 Miles) to a 6:15 pace (2 Miles) to a 6:00 pace (5.5 Miles). If I had had time, I would have kept going, because the dowhill treadmill running suited me just fine. I powered through the miles with only a single, short bio/water break after Mile 4.

| 5 Miles Easy while pushing my son and daughter in the 2-seater, "BOB" stroller. Stopped for a few minutes around Mile 3 to feed the ducks (and fish) at a pond in our neighborhood. Despite the 7:30 pm start, it was still well over 90 degrees. As such, today's run was a little tougher than I expected or wanted, but the kids and I had a blast. Good times after a long day at work. It's so refreshing to see my kids smile and enjoy the simple things in life. Wesley |

| After a Paul Dean Buffet (think grease), a couple hours of very conservative card-playing at the Casino, and about as much sleep as could be expected for a quick, one-night guy trip to Tunica, Mississippi, I hit an old highway in the Mississippi Delta for 8 Miles at 7:04/mile. I worked four moderate to fast striders into the latter half of the run; also swam a few laps in the hotel pool to cool-down after the run. Fun night with my friends. Good run in God's Country. | My afternoon plans for a long, hot run were cut short when, out of nowhere, a thunderstorm rolled through and settled over West Little Rock for the better part of 2 hours. I ended up running right at 7 Miles at 7:34/mile, an easy pace, but pretty tough given the 100+ degree heat and stiff humidity. And goodness knows I finished fast after seeing that first streak of lightning, which was much too close for comfort. Taking advantage of the afternoon with my kids. Terrible gastrointestinal issues today; my kids have a bug, so I'm thinking I could have picked something up from them. To that end, I felt a little fatigued after getting up a couple of times with my daughter, Sophie, who has been battling her own tummy issues for a couple of days. More generally, however, it's hard to argue that I need to take a look at my diet and fueling as I begin building up my mileage for another round of training.

8 Mile out-and-back loop on Hwy. 171 near my parents' home between Malvern and Hot Springs, Arkansas. And what a beutiful morning! After thunderstorms and showers throughout the week, the temperature was hovering around 75 degrees when I started my run at 8:00 am (slept in and ate with breakfast with my kids). And it was just the boost I needed. Consider my splits below:
0.25 Mile warm-up;
2 Miles at 7:15/mile;
2 Miles at 6:35/mile (gradual downhill);
2 Miles at 6:55/mile (gradual uphill);
2 Miles at 6:35/mile; and
0.25 Mile cool down.

6.5 Miles with my Dad on Hwy. 171 near my parents' home between Malvern and Hot Springs, Arkansas. Nice, mid-day run (extremely unusual for my Dad to run this late in the day); despite the humidity, the light rain and cloud coverage held the temperature down to a manageable level.

Tough goings today. After catching my kids' stomach virus and spending most of Sunday afternoon in bed, I ended up taking yesterday off (except for mowing the yard very slowly late Sunday). I was feeling good enough to go to work today, but my energy level is still pretty low. But if I can go to work, I sure as hell can run, right?
So I clogged away for 12.5 Miles on the treadmill, running Mile 11 and Mile 12 at a 7:13 pace. After a half-mile cool down, and a few minutes in the sauna, I took another shot and ran another 3 Miles, basically to the point of diminishing returns. I ran Mile 3 of the second run in 7:13 as well.

Bounced back nicely after a day off on Sunday and a grinder yesterday. pm: 3.5 Mile Progressive Run on treadmill at 6:58 (M1), 6:40 (M2), 6:18 (M3), 5:56 (.25), and 4:49 (.25); in leadership training all day today, and the class happens to be taking place on the same floor of my gym (good break for me)...so despite the brief 45-minute break for lunch, I was able to work in this nice, short run; felt a little better than expected given that I don't usually run doubles.
