Personal:

Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

Do you have any running recommendations for that part of Michigan? Trails, parks, etc.

The Clinton River Trail (mostly paved or packed limestone) is pleasant if you're in the northern suburbs of Detroit.

On a previous trip, my wife's cousin introduced me to some pretty twisty and technical rolling mountain bike trail loops at the Highland State Recreation Area, which is 45 mins or so northwest of Detroit.

Good luck at the half in October.

My wife and I are moving to Shelby Township (Rochester/Rochester Hills area just north of Troy) this week. I found the Clinton River Trail, which looks great assuming I can access it safely from where we are. I'll check out Highland State. I'm in need of some hills as I live on the outer edge of Philadelphia and it's quite hilly and has some rocky, hilly, technical trails. Thanks, Wesley.

Good luck with the move, Jason. My mountain-biking cousin also mentioned Pontiac as an area with good trails and said the following was a good resource:
