Pride necessarily sprouts and grows; a pride that can only come from relentless kneading of unwilling flesh, painful months of grinding and burning away all that is heavy, all that is strength-sapping and useless to the body as a projectile. --John L. Parker, Jr., runner/author

10 Miles in 7:03 on treadmill set to 1.0 incline.  Despite two days off, continued chest congestion made this run much more difficult than it should have been.

On a positive note, I did purchase and begin breaking in the pair of shoes I will be wearing in the L.R. Marathon on March 6 (latest model of Brooks Adrenaline; identical to current shoes on which most of my training miles have been run).  I also tried out a 10 ounce hand-held (Fuel Belt), which I am considering using during the race in lieu of hand-offs at the aid stations.  The jury's out on the hand-held...

Nice run Wesley.

Is the cours you will be racing fairly spectator friendly> In other words, could your wife or a good friend meet you at several points along the way?

Thanks, Rob. As to the L.R. Course, it is very spectator friendly for the first 16, but after that, it becomes a little more challenging because of road closures, etc.

Whenever I run a local marathon where my wife is familiar with the course, I have her meet me with my favorite drink three or four times.Keeps me from having to carry stuff and from slowing down at the race's aid stations. I also get a real lift from seeing my fam along the way.

The night before, I go to a 7-11 and get my kids several bottles of "bug juice". They love the stuff and it comes in these 5-6 oz. squeeze bottles. I have them drink the juice and I re-fill them with my drink. The bottles fit perfectly in my hand and I can grab and go and drink leisurely for the next 1/2 mile or so.

I love this plan...particularly the "bug juice" and getting the kids involved.

I have this hilarious image of you passing other elite runners with one of these in your hands. That's classic.

Ha! I usually strip the label off the bottle though so it's just a clear, plastic bottle.
