I know that everyone else is lamenting Daylight Savings Time, but since I run in the late afternoon, I love it--this is the first weekday run in a long time that was all in the sun.  And it was a beautiful day, too:  over 60, sunny, a little on the windy side, but only about 5 mph or something.

Warmed up 1.75 miles to the track, got to the track and didn't start because instead I ran a couple laps with a guy I used to work with who was finishing his workout.  I would actually like to beat him in the 1/2, but I will know whether that is possible based on my race this weekend, which he is also running (which is a bit of a coincidence, I think, considering the race is in Chicago, but I guess maybe it isn't too huge a coincidence).  His goal is just slightly faster than mine, but I don't think he's been training that well.  After a couple laps I said my goodbyes and started my workout.

Run was 2 x (400 at 5K pace (100), 1200 at 10K pace (200), 2000 at 1/2 m pace).  Goal paces:  400--1:48,  1200--5:42, 2000--10:00.

Actual paces:  400--1:43, 1200--5:25, 2000--9:57, 400--1:47, 5:40, 2000--9:45. And I wasn't sure what to do as far as recovery between my first 2000 and second 400, so I settled with a 300.

Then I cooled down 2.62 miles to home. I had stupidly worn too many layers on my run because I was sitting outside while the kids were playing after school, and was a little cold then and didn't feel like peeling off my clothes right away.  So I was dying on my warm up, took extra layers off during the actual workout, and then wore the extra layers around my waist on the way home, and felt really bogged down.  I started off wearing more clothes than I did during winter running.

Hi Tracy, That was a speedy workout! What kind of race to you have planned this weekend? Have to kind of laugh because in your personal column to the left, you say you have no competitive drive!

Hope the weather stays gorgeous for your race this weekend, and good luck!

Great run! I have been doing that too lately. I felt like I just got winter clothes right and poof back to warmer weather. Today I got out of school wishing I was an afternoon runner. But I know if I wait till the afternoon it just won't get done!

I got a little benefit from the evening end of DST tonight, so I understand where you're coming from. However, I didn't manage to get out until 1/2 hour before sunset and ended up running in the dark anyway.

Good luck in your race. I bet you'll beat that guy.

Great job and you hit your paces awesomely faster than planned! I agree--you will beat the guy for sure!

Yeah, Adele, I guess that does come off as weird. Maybe I am getting a competitive drive. My problem is that

1) I like to compete against people that don't know I am competing against them

2) I like to compete against people that I know I can beat.

I'm what you might call "passive-aggressive."

So his 1/2 marathon time last year was about where I think I can be, or at least I hope I can be, or I am training to be (8:00 pace). But I don't know where he is this year. I suspect slower.

But now he knows I want to be him, so I will have to find an unsuspecting target!

I also think it is funny that you say you have no competitive drive! I think you do. An old boyfriend of mine did a 1/2 last year and I have beat his time both 1/2 I have run. When I am tired or feeling slow sometimes I think about beating him. I think that would also be considered passive-aggressive. At least it motivates!
