Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

12.9 miles. Legacy Trail to Venice Avenue and back. 1:30 pm (after church) start. 1:39:56. 7:45 pace. 72 degrees. 64% hum. 59 d.p. Shirtless run. 1st half- 50:05, 7:46 pace. 2nd half- 49:51, 7:44 pace. This consistent pace is pretty unusual for me. Anyhow, beautiful day. I ran the whole thing with a smile on my face. When I got home, I took the kids to the beach, cooled down my legs in the water. and watched them skimboard like lunatics. I can't wait to get back to the summer, when we do this every Saturday.

5.2 Miles. Ringling Bridge. 38:21. 7:23 pace. 5:30 pm start. 69 deg. 58% hum. 54 D.P. The guy that won Springfest 12k was out running. He introduced himself to me, and we ran together for @ 2 miles. He trains on Saturdays with another local fast dude that I vaguely know, (both guys are going to Boston) and asked me if I would like to run with them.

I feel like the nerdy kid that just got invited to the cool kids' table.

Weird twitch in my right upper hamstring for the last couple of days. Not exactly a pain, but something's off. Long story short, I don't feel too optimistic about racing this weekend. I'll race, but I'm not expecting a PR. Treatment? - I'm sitting on a tennis ball.

Race: St. Patty's Day 8k (4.97 Miles) 00:32:32, Place overall: 4, Place in age division: 1

St. Patty's Day 8k. 32:32. 6:33 pace. 3 up (with the moon setting over the gulf- Nice!). Temp. in the 50's at the 8:00 am start. Not much wind, not much humidity. Not my fastest race, but one of my smartest races. I didn't go out to fast. I was passed by one guy @ mile 1.5 (he finished 2nd). Then I was by myself for the rest of the race. A very polite kid from Lemon Bay High School won. The whole family was there. Aunt Marilyn got the sweaty hug. We had the green eggs after the race. The kids wrestled in the sand. Great morning.

Again, this race is on the same weekend as the Sarasota Half. So, I don't put too much stock in the placing. I am pleased that I could hold this pace for the whole race.
