I was a bit weary about running outside this morning due to the crazy wind.  But it turned out okay and I'm glad I went to the track (versus doing them on the TM).

1.25 mile warm up to the track.

9x400 (The wind got a bit CRAZY during the middle 200 of the track, but I guess it didn't effect my times too much!!).

7-1:33

So at this point in the workout, I thought I only had one more to go.  But the "laps" on my watch looked a bit off.  So I went under a light and figured out I had 2 more instead of one.  It kinda messed with my head.  Which makes me mad....what is the big deal about 1 more fast lap.

8-1:44

9-1:38

I was disappointed in the last 2 times.  I had to stop for probably 3 minutes to figure out how many laps I had done.  Oh well!  My times are still MUCH faster than last week (which averaged about a 1:38), so I am pleased!  I was at puke zone for several sets (maybe 4-9).  But I found the more I pump my arms, the easier it was to go faster.

I remember doing an obscene about of 400's in high school while training for the 800M.  I was always up on my toes during the last 200-100m.  I need to get to that point of strength and speed.  I was also running those in the 1:20's too...guess I'm getting old!

A few cool down laps on the grass around the track.

WOW!!! AWESOME speedwork Toby! EXCELLENT JOB!!! You didn't mention rest intervals. Did you run 200s or equal amount of time for the RI? I hear you on keeping track of the intervals. You did your first 7 just right. You got progressively faster and I'll bet you would've hit #8 and 9 faster if weren't for the mixed-up. Still very solid workout! It will make your marathon pace feels easy! :)

Oh, I didn't know you ran track in HS! You're a STAR athlete! AND you're NOT getting old! :)

Another great track workout! Form is so important for running fast - that's why speed work is so good for you.

Smooth - I did a 200 in between each set. I was no track star...just a runner :)

Andrea - Thanks! When I read about your track workouts, they always seem so effortless :) There is a reason why I do them at 4:30am, in the dark and alone. Mine require a lot of ugly effort :)

Killer track workout Toby! I can't wait to see all this speed in action at Ogden!!!
