I've had very stiff hamstrings recently.  It isn't a pull or anything.  They are just really tight.  I'm not sure if I'm running with a different gate or something. Other than that, I felt fine today before lunch on my easy 4 - ave pace 7:30/mile.

PM - went to the track for my first intervals in a long long time.  It was 88 deg and sunny so I just did 8 X400 with 200meters walk/jog in between.  I did speed up in the last 4 and was very consistant so I wasn't too horribly disappointed.  I wanted to do 4x800 but basically chickened out.  But my effort was there and that's the point I suppose.  It looks like those times (except for the 1:24) were inside my McMillan suggested interval times from my last 5K.

You just have so much lean muscle in your hammys that they are tight and ready to spring you forward at a rapid pace.

Ice - I usually only do that if I have an injury. Will ithelp with tight muscles?

Excellent speed work. Very nice splits.

Stretching and massage are your best friend for tight muscles. However, I am a fan of ice if there is any question in regardes to whether you are just sore from a good workout, or on the verge of injury.

Here is a decent article about icing: http://news.runtowin.com/2006/07/11/icing-your-woes-ice-early-ice-often.html

thanks Andy -

Teena - I probably need to get one of those foam rollers or something like that. Thanks for the advise.

I absolutely * LOVE * my foam roller.

In fact, it is red and my hubby and kids make fun of me calling it Red Sausage. They'll say stuff like, "Leave Mommy alone, she needs her alone time with Red Sausage."

Good stuff though ... use your body weight (not that you have any) to really get pressure lengthwise on your sore muscles.
