So ... as usual I procrastinate getting ready for the race until it is almost time to go to bed. In my process of doing this I realized that my watch was almost dead and I could not find my charger anywhere!!! WHAT??? I looked everywhere. Couldn't find the silly thing. Hmmmm ... I have run very little since Boston (due to my silly leg/s) and most of that has been on the treadmill. Could it be that I left it in Boston. No way -- they would have called. Long story short ... they have it. Gave them my credit card and hopefully now it is in the mail!!! What a start! :D :D :D Luckily my friend Stevie has the same watch. He was nice enough to charge it and bring it in the morning :D :D :D

I had no idea how this race would turn out for me. My bib number was 3332. Smooth said that meant: Alive Alive Alive Easy. So, I interpreted that to mean that if I took this run easy that I would cross the finish line alive!!! Sounded perfect!!! :D :D :D Going in, I really wanted to run around a 3:45, but had truly decided that I would be happy with whatever, as long as I didn't make any stupid moves like I did at Boston! :D :D :D

Went up with a bunch of my running buddies from the neighborhood. The only bloggers with us was JohnnyV (who doesn't really blog much anymore) and RivertonPaul (cousin of JohnnyV), needless to say, I think many of the my friends will begin blogging now. As fortune would have it, we saw Andy, Lowell, and Rich Borget as we were deciding which bus to get on and were able to ride up with them. Although I missed the rest of the bloggers tremendously, it was fun to be with this group as I have not spent much time with them at all. As we were waiting for the race start a bunch of us started calling out Smooth's name -- but no response    .

Before I knew it the race was off. I was shocked at how well I felt, I quickly wanted to change my plan and really race. However ... common sense (for once) kicked in and I settled for a not super easy, but definitely not a pushing it pace. My biggest fear was hitting the wall hard like I did at Boston -- I was almost certain it was going to happen (likely around mile 16 - 18) but my goal was to stave it off until the 20s. 16 came -- no wall, 18 -- still no wall, 20 -- I was definitely tired and slowing, but no wall, 22 -- same thing, 25 -- slowed way down, but nothing like Boston. Saw Andy, what a welcome site (it pays to be one of the harem) and MrsFit. Crossed the finish line in 3:38:18, my second best marathon time. AND ... I felt 100 times better than I did at the end of Boston. Make that 1000 times better.

Smooth told me she was going to run around a 4:20 ... I should have known better. I totally missed her!!! Stood at the finish line waiting and fearing as the clock was approaching 4:40. She snuck up behind me and I was SO HAPPY to see her. I am always amazed at how cheery she is even after suffering another major attack by that dang charlie!!!!

I think the only bummer part of the deal this race was everyone was talking about seeing Allie at mile 20 (I didn't see her). Dang!!!

Came home, chilled while I gulped down a slurpee watching my hot hubby do yardwork, attended a wedding reception, and then saw Letters to Juliet (cute show). GREAT DAY!!!! :D :D :D :D

Will take this week off and just crosstrain. I think that is what is best for my body.

I was so happy to see you coming in as early as you did. That meant you had a great race. Your fear of hitting the wall forced you to start the race the right way. Not super easy but not pushing it is the way the first 10 miles of a marathon are supposed to feel. From the way you described how you felt, it sounds like you executed a perfect race plan. Congratulations on a very well run marathon.

From Smooth on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:10:05 from 174.23.172.155

My dear sweet SSF! I am so so so so so happy for you! You ran a perfect race! No pain, no meds and a superb time just 26 days off of Boston and *silly legs*. Wow the hotel still has your charger! I left my nice new garments in the hotel yesterday...hmm, wonder if they threw them away!

ANYWAY! You are AWESOME! You finally figured out what works for you and how to race a successful marathon! YOU totally ROCKED Ogden! CONGRATS for a second best marathon! LOVE your report! You went to a movie?!!! HOW FUN! I LOVE YOU!

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:15:26 from 71.219.44.64

Yes, Awesome Teena, Two in a Row!! are you going for Tic Tac Toe? What next?! Way to go and not hit the 8 mile wall. Sure wish they were handing out IBs instead of GUs. Glad you were pain free and had a great friend take you in to the finish!! Way to get under your goal for the day!! :D DD

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:16:01 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Andy!!! It's hard for me to say it was the perfect race because I was so dead at the end. I'm hoping that has a lot to do with my lack of miles/base. I am really really really really hoping to be able to find something that works and keeps my body and check that will allow me the sub 3:30 at SGM. But that means I have to shave off 20 seconds per mile. Dang that sounds like a lot!!!!

SSF -- I did have pain meds before the race though. Just not during. But considering what I took at Boston (I still won't admit to how much), I am not going to complain about the 4 ibuprofen and 2 tylenol I took before Ogden. I was thrilled about that. Today my right knee is killing me ... but that will get better. ABSOLUTELY ZERO PAIN in the anterior compartment!!! YES!!!!

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:18:06 from 174.52.45.85

Julie -- It was just great fun not to feel any real pressure to meet any goal (other than to cross the finish line) and not to completely push it. I think I need to run more like that more often. The always pushing it strategy keeps getting me injured!!!

UVM is next. I will run it the same way! :)

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:18:23 from 71.219.44.64

BTW my daughter went to a b-day party yesterday and they all went to that movie. It was PG I was told. Hope it was fine for 11-12 year girls. My daughter said it was and I was wanting to preview it first. Gosh, I didn't do anything but clean up the house and watch my daughter's soccer game and hang in the river, oh and collapse at the finish line...my bed. A nice movie would have been more appealing.

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:19:35 from 174.52.45.85

Oh yeah, SSF -- Can't end a reply to you without saying, "Love and miss you already!!!"

How are your calves this morning?

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:21:14 from 174.52.45.85

Julie -- The movie was very cute with nothing offensive. We already told our 12 year old that she can see it. :)

The movie and the crepe I ate during it was absolutely relaxing. :)

From Andy on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:21:23 from 198.60.114.178

"The always pushing it strategy keeps getting me injured!!!" Remind yourself of this every day.

From JulieC on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:21:31 from 71.219.44.64

did you notice everyone's time was at gun time? might remove a few seconds for you : D

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:26:03 from 174.52.45.85

Andy --

Should I change that to my blog title???? Or just paste it on my ceiling above my bed??? :)

Julie --

I put my garmin time down. Oh wait, just checked my garmin, I remembered wrong. Need to go change that, it will take away 2 more seconds! :) :) :) Hey, 2 seconds is 2 seconds.

I also noticed (this probably doesn't matter for you super fast runners) that they included the relay teams in the placings. That seems silly.

From allie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:26:42 from 67.177.0.102

what a great race! way to run strong and avoid the wall. i am so glad your legs felt good and nice job smashing through your goal. i was so sad that i missed you. i figured you would be coming by at any time, so i was watching for you intently. there was a guy just in front of you that made some silly "are we there yet?" joke. while in the process of responding to him you must have flown right by me. i saw you approaching the aid station (pink shorts, right?) and i was so sad that i missed the opportunity. you were running very strong, though. you looked awesome. congrats on a great marathon. rest well this week!

From Teena Marie on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:29:35 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Allie!

Yep, pink shorts. It was such a fun race. It's hard for me to say that I ran strong when I didn't completely push it. But ... I have to admit that I LOVED not hitting the wall. Does that make me weaksauce? Since I am planning on 5 marathons this year, I think I will truly only race SGM and go for my real goal. What do you think? I am just so so so tired of repeatingly getting injured. Advice? Anyone?

From Walter on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 10:38:37 from 24.10.169.110

TM! You rock. I did Ogden marathon 2 years ago after running Boston and it was really grueling for me. You ran a smart race. Good job, and it was cool seeing you on my cool down. lol

Very speedy Teena! And with no real expectations, that is amazing. Just goes to show what a little rest will do for you. I sure hope that leg continues to behave for you. Congrats on a fast race and feeling so good the whole way. with the right recovery, you just may PR UVM.

Oh yeah, way to re-BQ with lots of time to spare.

From Doone on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 18:14:40 from 184.10.154.170

Congrats on an amazing race. I am so proud of you for listening to your body (specifically your legs) and just running a great and fun race. You deserve it!! It sounds like a fun one and was a great finish. I wish I could have been there to cheer everyone in. I wish I lived closer to wonderful people like you. I need a girlfriend to see a good chick-flick with.

Walter James --

Thanks. It was fun seeing you on your cooldown. Congrats again on your win. Simply amazing!!!!

Bradley --

I missed seeing you. There is something about you that makes everyone around you feel happiness. I can't tell you how grateful I am that you were there for Smooth. I think the world of you.

KP --

YOU are the awesome one! Thank you so much for always being so wonderful and encouraging. Hope you are enjoying your little break from school. :) :) :)

Kel --

Thanks. I am very happy with my run. I am going to take things down a notch and just enjoy it for a while. If all goes well I will push at SGM.

Rhett --

It was a lot of fun. My leg hurts today, but not nearly like it did after Boston. I'm just going to keep things nice and easy for a while. My body needs a break. :)

Doone --

I can not tell you how badly I wish you lived closer. You should see Letters to Juliet, very cute!!!! Will Rhett watch chick flicks or is he too manly??? :) :) :)

Brent --

Thanks!!!! If I tell you that I walked through every aid station do the commando points get deducted or added???? :)

From RAD on Sun, May 16, 2010 at 21:03:08 from 67.172.229.125

I was SO impressed when I saw you running strong into the finish and I knew you'd take a sub 3:40! I cheered you on, but I think you were focused and listening to the ipod, but know that the well wishes were there!! You are simply amazing. How I wish I could run that time and say it was a 'not pushing it' pace! AMAZING!

Cross train well this week, and let your body recover! SGM is right around the corner and we need you ready to RACE that one!

That's about 4 min off a PR after little running in the last 1.5 months? That speaks very well of your base fitness. Great job!

I think I'll come back and read this later. It's sooooo loooonggg!!! Just kidding. I read it. It wasn't so much the length of the report as it was the amount of comments there, little miss popularity. And of course I have to read through all the comments to make sure I don't repeat anything anyone else said. That being said, I'm sure I will. You are simply amazing! Did anyone say that yet?
