Smooth and Lowell talked me into running this race a few days ago. I have a hard time saying no to either a comped entry or my SSF, so I was in double jeopardy from the get go.

Did not have any set goals for this race. I knew that I would not be able to PR and I didn't want to do anything stupid one week after Poky and so soon before SGM. I thought if I could run it around 1:44 (slightly faster than marathon pace) that it would be a good sign that my body is recovering nicely and responding well to these multiple marathons.

There was a headwind for much of the first half, which also happens to be the gradual uphill miles. Dang. Coming down was much nicer. Sadly, my legs did not have any zip today, but thankfully I had no pain or soreness either ... just a bit heavy and tired. I will take it! :)

I ran this race two years ago (on much fresher legs) in 1:46:38 (roughly 3 1/2 minutes slower than today) and then proceeded to run SGM in 3:34:59. I'm hoping this means I will run 7 minutes faster this year. Oh please, oh please, oh please ... I would be on cloud nine!!! :) :) :)

The highlight of this race was Michelle Lowry smashing the course record (which also happened to be hers). My SSF, as usual, did amazing as did Maynard and Lowell! :) :) :)

** The shirts had a beautiful touch on the sleeve: The date (9-11-10) with the American flag below. Very nice.

** 2.25 miles cooldown.

T NA NA - hum, hum, hum, racing machine hey, think fresh legs for STG, your too close to risk hard down hill running at this time, be smart, a PR will come.

What an amazing race and CONGRATS on another successful win in your back pocket. I see a lot more than just 7 minutes off your SGM time lady! You are seriously on FIRE! Wish I could've joined you :(

From Tom Slick on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 10:24:40 from 69.171.174.247

Great job girly girl. Now get into your SGM taper mode and get ready for a stellar run at SGM. Congrats on the hardware at a tune up race.

From Maurine/Miles on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 10:33:36 from 63.255.172.2

You are doing awesome this year. Congrats on the AG win.

From Andy on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 11:07:59 from 208.54.5.49

Of course there was no zip in your legs. You just ran a marathon last week. The zip will be back just in time for St. George. It seems that there have been a lot of things pointing to a 3:27.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 11:18:51 from 174.52.45.85

SSF~

You are so cute. Faster? I'm not sure about that, but I do feel like I am getting stronger. So hopefully that will translate into faster at SGM!!! Love you so much!

Brent~

Spanish Fork is neither too steep up or too steep down. It was a very safe course for me to run on. :) Now I will concentrate on making sure my legs recover well from the past 6 months so that they will be fresh for SGM! :)

Rachel~

Thanks! I am just lucky that the super fast women in my AG haven't come to many of the races I have this year. Seriously, how I got 1st in my AG with a 1:43 is beyond me. I could hardly believe it when the results were posted.

Slick~

Yep!! Taper time. :) Still trying to make a plan as to what will be the best way for me to do that. I feel like I should get in one more good week of solid running.

Maurine~

I am just THRILLED that my body is holding up! Truly a fun time for me. Thank you so much!!! :)

Andy~

Please help me figure out the proper way to handle these next three weeks. I am not sure the the Pfitz 4 week between marathon schedule is the right direction for me. The problem is, I am not sure what the right direction is. I don't want to mess this up. My gut tells me that I should run another solid week before going into any real serious taper. Please tell me what you think.

Wow, great job getting time from last year and your goal! You rock and will have a great St. George! See you there!

From Tom Slick on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 11:42:35 from 69.171.174.247

Don't let "Taper Madness" take over! At this time, more is not better. The only thing to be gained by running harder now is to become injured. There are lots of simple taper plans out there to use as a guide.

The entire purpose of training over the next three weeks is to allow you to rest your body after the previous 15 weeks of progressively tougher training, not to mention the mult-marathon schedule you've been on...

That means that you can cut mileage to 75% in the first week of taper, 50% in the second week and 25 % in the final taper week.

Don't fall into the main problem that runners exhibit in "Taper Madness"...psychologically they worry about losing conditioning by running less and become anxious. Rest is essential!!!! You won't lose conditioning when you taper. But remember on race day you're going to need to control any impulses to run the first few miles too fast!!!!! PM me if you want help with a taper schedule!

From MichelleL on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 11:43:09 from 70.58.32.131

Nice job Teena, you are on target for BQ. The last way to earn it is to show up and have a good race (you don't even need a great race, your training's got you covered). I wouldn't do a high mileage week, but do some solid workouts.

From Mike on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 12:34:37 from 155.85.58.253

Sweetness.

From RivertonPaul on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 14:14:22 from 174.23.157.73

Great effort, especially since you've not been tapering.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 16:49:40 from 174.52.45.85

Jeff~

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it! :)

Slick~

I have a bunch of stuff that you emailed me about tapering. I should probably go over and read it again. :)

Michelle~

Thanks! :) I already have my BQ what I really want now is to run sub 3:30. Once again, congrats on setting another course record! :)

Mike~

I can not help but smile when I read the word "Sweetness." We named our first son after "Sweetness", i.e. Walter Payton! He was the man!!! :) :) :)

Paul~

Thanks. Looking back I know I could have pushed harder. But I feel like I accomplished what I wanted to with that race. :)

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Sep 12, 2010 at 22:20:56 from 24.10.248.6

Great job once again.

Wow - another race -- how fun

Great job out there!

From Doone on Mon, Sep 13, 2010 at 11:46:02 from 184.10.153.95

I am pretty sure Superstar should be your blog name! I am so impressed with how much faster and better you are getting. You inspire me. Congrats on 1st AG!! It sounds like a fun race.

I just hope you truly do taper for SGM because I think you are going to rock. I can hardly wait to get online and check times and see how everyone did. Rhett and I are both so sad to not be there.

TAPER, taper, taper, taper!! You can do it!!

From Teena Marie on Mon, Sep 13, 2010 at 12:46:31 from 166.70.177.6

Rob~

Thanks!!! Okay ... expand on that for me ... how much rest? (What's too much? What's too little?):)

Tim~

I have a hard time telling Smooth no! It was her idea ... NOT MINE!!! :)

Doone~

Right now I don't feel faster, but I do feel a bit stronger. Hoping it will all come together at SGM. :)

From JulieC on Mon, Sep 13, 2010 at 14:35:13 from 71.213.102.74

It means exactly that!!! From what I remember MichelleL told me two years ago that doubling this race time would tell you how fast you would be at SGM---so that's a 3:26!!! Even better probably because you would have rested and weren't so for this race. GREAT RUN!!!

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 11:39:26 from 204.113.19.47

Congrats on 1st in your age group. :)

Another race? You had better take the taper oath. Time to recharge for your GOAL race.

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 14, 2010 at 22:12:06 from 71.219.102.155

I bet 7 minutes faster this year, if not more! You are on FIRE!!!! Nice job, I did not even realize there was a race. I am a big time slacker!
