3:27:33 -- Definitely not my best race, but considering the past few weeks I will gladly take it and say "thank you very much." :)

So ... this is definitely a race I will remember. Just for a quick run down:

The family is staying in Eden thru tomorrow afternoon. I met up with them after a super long day (13 hours) in the clinic. I think I got here around 9:30ish. I was tired but all was good. :)

Saturday morning I slept in (giving me 9+ hours of sleep which felt AWESOME). Got up and began to get ready for my short little jog. WHAT??? Somehow my running bag was left at home!!! NO!!!! With construction in the canyons it was about a 3 hour trip. Dumb!!! But I told myself the sitting while driving would be a good forced rest. :)

Now to the race:

I WAS FREEZING from the get go. Arrived with a little over an hour before the start and searched and searched for Smooth, Vuyk, Ashton the Lintons and Lowell. Never did find them. This bummed me out big time. I just wanted the gun to go off and to get moving. I did find a handful of friends from my neighborhood though. I was wearing shorts, tank, and a pair of Ry's dress socks on my arms. Everything was soaked within the first 20 minutes (I told myself, "No problem, T! You run well in rain." :)

Miles 1 - 5. I told myself to go slow per Bonnie's advice. I tried to ... but I was moving faster than I should have even though it felt super easy. So easy that I overly confidently told myself, "Teena, I think you are going to PR today! Merry Christmas!!!"

Mile 6: (Background: Last night I spent over $20 purchasing some new tunes for my ipod. Good music always makes me feel good and I knew that I would need that today.) My ipod was soaked and ceased to play any music whatsoever!!!! Weaksauce ipod!!!

Miles 7 - 10: I didn't like these miles. Boring.

Mile 11: Saw Ashton!!! "Sweet!" Since Ashton is friends with Ry I am sure that I will not get in any trouble if I give him a hard slap on the buttocks as I pass!! He beat me in XTERRA, so now it was my turn. Still thinking I rule. :)

Mile 12 - 16: Ran comfortably but the miles were starting to wear on me. Took my 2nd Gu around mile 16. Had a hard time opening it because my fingers were shaking and my teeth were failing to do anything resembling ripping a package open! Finally got it.

Mile 17-20: Not too bad ... but starting to struggle more than I had hoped. But plenty happy that I was not struggling any worse. Just dripping wet and freezing my something off. The idea of PRing disappeared. Thought a course PR was still realistic. Which still thrilled me.

Mile 21 - 23: Can't fully take advantage of the sweet canyon downhill. Things are turning south very quickly. (Which is normal for me on this course.) "Stupid puddles and construction areas ... " No way to run true tangents. The discrepancy of the mileage on my watch and the mile markers on the course are getting further and further apart. Can't open another Gu. Hands and teeth are not behaving. Out of frustration I cease trying. No more Gu's or anything solid for the last 10 miles of the race. But I walked through most all of the aid stations to drink my little cup of gatorade. :)

Mile 24 - finish: Hurting. Hurting. Hurting. No injuries. Just extreme fatigue and stomach. Trying to call upon Bonnie and Andrea's badassness (can I say that on here?). Almost there!! No chance of getting a course PR at this time. My watch is too off. No how no way. Oh well!! It's all good. I'll see my Ry in no time!!! (He ran the half in 1:46:xx. And he looked amazing this morning!) :)

FINISH!!!! 3:27:33 (1:13 more than my personal course best but almost a quarter of a mile longer than 26.2 ... so it all comes out in the wash, right?)

Glad it's over! I'm happy! You win some, you lose some. This was kind of in between, AND ... my body doesn't hurt now several hours later. Just a little tightness in the right hip but nothing bad at all. Now how do you like them apples??? :) :) :)

Happy Saturday, All.

Oh, speaking of wash, quick question: "Why did the polar bear wash his clothes in Tide?"

ANSWER: Because it was too cold to wash them 'out'-tide!!!!!! :) :) :)

(Now admit it: That is HILARIOUS!)

Mmmmm hummmm. You said it perfectly. I can't believe you had to drive 3 hours this morning to get your bag! AHHH! Sounds like it worked out. (as a side note, I saw a lady throw a bag away in the trash. After she walked away I saw here bib in there! I couldn't find her anywhere. Guess she got down the canyon anyway, just unaccounted for. That could have been you.) Back to my comment....you held on tough today and took a positive approach to a not so positive situation. Ohhh, it was so cold though!! I also felt so grizzly trying to bite everything open and still somehow not succeeding! Ha! And your joke is...well...funny that you think it is funny!!! hahahalolol!

From Bonnie on Sat, May 18, 2013 at 17:56:05 from 64.119.33.134

Teena!!! You were super tenacious! Given all the stresses you have been under it is an amazing time! You drew from your inner strength and hung on for a sub 3:30 in horrid conditions. I am so proud of you xxoo

From Teena Marie on Sat, May 18, 2013 at 18:16:36 from 65.130.92.199

Tara~

I drove three hours yesterday. :) It was my general running bag, not the one from the expo. :) And you KNOW that joke is funny!!!

Bonnie~

I'm happy!!! Absolutely I would have LOVED to have run it about 5 minutes faster but I am just super happy that it wasn't 10 minutes slower (which I really thought was a possiblity). :)

From Shimelle on Sat, May 18, 2013 at 18:29:07 from 76.27.83.130

Way to go lady!!! I know the rain and cold cause you tiny people muscle struggle/tightness which leads to misery:) You are awesome and considering the craziness in your life right now, am impressed at how well you are keeping up!

It was tough conditions out there today! Way to stick through it (especially music less)!!! Go celebrate! (ohhhh....I'm totally jealous you are staying in Eden....so beautiful)!!!

From Smooth on Sat, May 18, 2013 at 22:01:00 from 71.35.212.74

It was nice talking to you on Lowell's phone! Sorry you were freezing and we missed you!

Good job today! You did awesome! Glad you are having a fun weekend with your family in Eden! :)

From Andrea on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 10:48:21 from 67.177.11.154

Nice race Teena! The cold conditions sound miserable but you hung in there pretty well. Your description makes me remember exactly what racing is like - feeling like a million bucks at first then slowly fading until it comes down to only willpower to get through. I really believe that your positive outlook helps you during this stage. So proud of both you and Ry today!

Also...seems like Bonnie and I need a little more "badassness" to keep you from slowing in the last few miles :)

From Bonnie on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 11:05:18 from 64.119.33.134

It must be me that needs to work on it, Andrea, you are about as BA as they come.

Hope you are relishing in your accomplishment, Teena!

From Steve on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 12:48:57 from 66.87.113.141

That is an awesome race report!

The joke could use some help... :-)

Good running Teena!

From DaleG on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 14:02:47 from 98.202.43.67

Great job, Teena. You hung in there when you needed it most. I like when people write when they struggle because it helps me realize that it doesn't only happen to me. I hope you're recovering well and getting plenty of rest and refueling.

From Maynard on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 17:22:49 from 159.212.71.25

What the heck, lady! You were there and I never got to see you?

I feel cheated!!! And I hold on to bitterness and anger. I have issues.

Awesome run though! You are awesome!

From Mike Warren on Sun, May 19, 2013 at 19:05:14 from 208.117.116.252

Solid Race!! You always overcome bad conditions from the Boston Heat to the Ogden Cold,,, Outstanding!!!!!!

Wish i saw u! Well done. Adversity makes us stronger! :-)

From Tom Slick on Mon, May 20, 2013 at 10:19:53 from 168.179.157.87

Well done Teena! That was a great time for such a sloppy weather day! You should take a look at the Layton Syracuse Marathon in August! I'll bet you could run a sub 3 hour race there!!!!

From Rachelle on Mon, May 20, 2013 at 11:57:51 from 199.190.170.30

Your report made me smile so big. :) You are seriously the best and your positive attitude is just contagious. A great race for you all things considered and a new course PR. Yay!

Rachelle~

You are always far too kind!!! :) (And I love it!)

From Andy on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 07:59:08 from 199.190.170.24

Sounds like you ran really well. Very few people have the energy to take advantage of the downhill miles from 20-24 at Ogden. It is just the nature of the course.

From Teena Marie on Tue, May 21, 2013 at 12:44:11 from 155.99.190.95

Andy,

I almost want to run the half next year so that I can really enjoy that part of the course for once!! :)

From fly on the Wall on Wed, May 22, 2013 at 16:16:12 from 168.180.63.58

ugh freezing cold rain is my least favorite running weather. I probably would have just curled up into fetal position and waited to be shuttled home. You on the other hand, kicked trash! Well done!

As for your joke, silly! the polar bear didn't have any clothes... because the tide washed them away.

What happened to the tourist who tried to take a picture of the polar bear doing his laundry? The police found his shoes washed up on shore.

What did the polar bear prostitute wash in Tide? A fish net stocking.

What do you call a polar bear who ran Ogden? A drizzly bear! What did the drizzly bear eat after Ogden? A BrrrrGrrrr HA! Now that's a real knee slapper! Ha! Ha! Ha!

No?

On a serious note, did you see the video where a bear walked up to the set of a commercial for a washing machine? No it's not a joke, check it out- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT4ikdAS-P0
