Midnight Moonlight Madly Right Marathon

(Bodyguards and all!)

SSF and I getting ready to hit it!

The Bodyguards!!!

(Nic, Fonz, and Johnny)

The Midnight Crew

This is HANDS DOWN the funnest marathon I have ever run! What more could I ask for? Running with my SSF on a beautiful night bodyguarded by two of my brothers and Fonz. IT WAS FABULOUS.

The boys took shifts protecting the women-folk! THANKS BOYS! However, I must admit that my brother, Johnny, will not be getting an invite for such a position next year. HE WAS THE WORST BODYGUARD EVER!! Not only did he run ahead but he got stinkin' LOST!!! What a nutjob! :) Luckily Nic was there to alleviate any fears we might have had otherwise. Second shift was Fonz! Seriously, so cool of him to be willing to run with us old ladies. I don't know if he has ever run that slow of a pace before (in fact, I don't think I have ever seen him run anything slower than a 6 minute mile), but he was GREAT, even pushing me hard a few different times. I wanted to kill him, but man it felt good! (Thanks for letting us bombard your house!)

I will NEVER forget this run. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people in my life. Any of you who know Smooth know just how lucky I am. She had me laughing so hard. The first 20 miles went by like nothing. And for those of you who read her blog about our run I need to clarify something right now: I wanted to run 20 or 22 miles ... it was Smooth who wanted to run 24 ... it was ONLY then that I said, "Blah ... if we are going to run 24 we might as well run 26.2." She is trying to blame me ... but it is was HER!!!! :) :) :)

** SSF, Johnny, Nic and Fonz: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! This will be one of those runs that will put a smile on my face each time I think about it!

************

AND as if the day could not get any better ... I tagged along with Smooth and Larry to watch the D-News marathoners run it in! THAT WAS AWESOME!!! Congrats to all of you on your fine races today, it was so much fun watching so many bloggers do so well. Smooth's brother-in-law, Gary, is NOT HUMAN!!! He looked so relaxed and aerodynamic as he ran through the finish line at a 3:07 and Allie -- YOU AMAZE ME!!!! :) :) :)

Kuh-razy old ladies! LOL! I like the first pictures where you're glowing in the dark.

From Tom Slick on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 10:00:00 from 172.191.192.46

Sounds like you had a ball! Can't believe that you ran all night then showed up at the Des News finish line and cheered in all the runners. Wasn't that "Gary" an animal!

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 10:00:24 from 69.144.239.26

Very exciting. Way to keep the sport fun. You know, I don't think I've EVER had company for a long run - except for my wife and kids who sometimes meet me along the way with drinks.

From Andy on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 10:11:48 from 198.60.114.178

I was pretty sure that this is what you 2 were planning. I'm glad you had a great time and were able to get in some serious miles. Please, please, please allow yourself to recover.

From Scott Wesemann on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 14:44:30 from 75.162.91.8

That is a cool idea and it sounds like a great adventure. I enjoyed the report. :)

Burt ~

What do you mean glow in the dark??? That's how we roll 24/7!!! :)

Slick ~

Gary is NOT HUMAN!!!! Seriously ... he is absolutely amazing!!!

Rob ~

That's because nobody can keep up with YOU!!!! Slow it down a bit and you will be introduced to a whole new world!!! :) So happy that your achilles did so well at D-News. Hope it is still feeling well. Please say so! :)

Andy ~

Next time you don't have the kids for the weekend and you feel like taking it very easy you need to come with us. Seriously ... it was heaven!!! And ... shockingly, I feel pretty dang good this morning!!! Keep me in check though ... please!! :)

Scott ~

We had so much fun! You need to come join us! :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 15:11:49 from 174.52.45.85

Mike ~

SO SO SO SO wish that we lived closer. Albeit I could never keep up with you!!! Sorry that you missed Enterprise. I know you would have killed that sub40! :)

From Smooth on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 15:21:19 from 174.23.218.43

SSF ~ I LOVE your report! I am grinning ear to ear reliving the whole thing! The boys were such good-sports putting up with me, the TRUE old lady!

THANK YOU for being my SSF! THANK YOU for putting up with my craziness! I am the lucky one who gets to have your company and your friendship!

Hey, we all know it was YOU who wanted to run the whole marathon. You forgot to mention that you ran 26.37! Hah, I stopped at 26.2! So who's the guilty party here?! :) :) :) :) :)

LOVE and MISS YOU! Hope you are recovering well! If you're sore...we know whose fault it is! :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 15:25:19 from 174.52.45.85

SSF ~

It was YOUR idea!!!! And a mighty fine one I must say!!! Seriously, I want to do this again! I know that it will likely have to wait until after SGM, but I want to do it again and again and again. Hey ... maybe we can get together for a moonlit run once a month. Seriously! It doesn't have to be a full marathon. Even a nice 10 miler. I loved it so so so so so much!

And, I am pretty convinced that running with you is my magic bullet. I am tight, but remarkably feel pretty dang good!!! :)

Love you!

From Smooth on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 15:35:57 from 174.23.218.43

The magic bullet is the LONG SLOW EASY miles...the silliness and fun company helps too! We need lots of it, don't you think?

I am already dreaming up more moonlight runs. Lets put our brains together and figure out the next one.

LOVE YOU TONS!

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 15:41:50 from 174.52.45.85

I couldn't agree more!!! LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of it!!! :)

From AmberG on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 15:42:47 from 75.162.144.246

You girls are my FAVORITE!!! I love you crazy-ness, , ,I can imagine just how much fun you had together and I'm in awe that you just went out and ran a whole marathon for fun!!!!!! One of my fav. quotes by Emerson is "Nothing great was ever achieved without ENTHUSIASM" and that explains you two teenagers to a T!!!!! A Teenamarie T! Great job :)

From seeaprilrun on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 16:35:39 from 68.103.243.161

What an awesome idea for a run--this is making me want to do something similar with my running buddies here!

From allie on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 19:03:07 from 174.23.226.74

From Rhett on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 19:39:30 from 74.36.34.151

Sounds like a wonderful event. Now you two just need to decide on the official name of this event if you expect it to last. :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 25, 2010 at 22:00:28 from 174.52.45.85

Amber ~

I love Emerson!!! Funny, Smooth and I think the same thing about you!!! :) I still remember the first time I read your 2009 PC race report. I was in awe and thought to myself, "Wow -- this girl has it going on!!!" :) :) :)

April ~

You definitely should!! It was so so so much fun!!!!

Allie ~

You are simply amazing! :) :) :) Smooth and I LOVED watching you run in.

Rhett ~

We'll let you name it if you and Doone come and join us!!!! :) :) :)

From Kathie on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 00:36:52 from 63.248.105.188

So Fun! I am sure you two talked the boys ears off, maybe that is why Johnny got "lost"!

From Tom Slick on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 09:11:02 from 172.190.109.250

Hey Gumps and Smooth, you two could be famous race directors if you started the Moonlight Midnight Madly Right Marathon......just a thought!

From RivertonPaul on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 10:53:46 from 67.42.27.114

Great run, but I bet even better memories.

So so so true!!! :)

From DonGardinero on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 13:03:40 from 75.162.189.17

Wow, very cool that you pulled this off. Even more cool that you got those guys to protect you. I don't think I could get anyone to do that even if I paid them. LOL

From timp on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 13:55:29 from 144.189.100.25

sounds like good times out there~!

From Kelli on Mon, Jul 26, 2010 at 15:00:58 from 71.219.99.30

SO FUN! You two are a bit mad in the head, but I bet you had a blast!

From JulieC on Tue, Jul 27, 2010 at 20:23:33 from 71.219.42.67

I should like to be invited next time...we could add on additional 24 miles just for fun : D. Seriously I am joking. YOU TWO are so awesome!! love the pics and the moonlit run theme!! Way to go!!! HOW do you feel? I hope you took it easy enough that it doesn't require a true marathon recovery. It sounds like you did. Congrats!!
