30 minutes elliptical

9 treadmill miles, AP 8:26

Definitely seeing improvement. Pn B LE still 3/10. Did not increase or decrease with run except when I tried to increase my speed. 8:30s seems to be most comfortable, which is far better than not running at all. As long as the pn stays at this level I think I will be able to cross the finish line at SGM. I am still worried about the distance and downhill. Will my elliptical cardio be enough to carry me through 26.2 running miles. Before Boston 2010 I did a lot of pool running, I did not do that this time. However, pn does not seem as significant as it did before Boston 2010. It'll be interesting. :)

No additional pn or swelling later in the evening or following morning. Alternated ice and heat a couple of times throughout the day. Ice seems to help with the swelling, heat seems to help with the tightness and pn.

Core strength training.

I'm glad to see the nine miles with no increase in pain! I hope SGM works its magic for you and allows you to cross the finish in one piece. You've worked so hard for this! I'm sure the cardio will be fine, especially if you are going a nice 'slow' 8:30 :) Keep up the good work on the healing, I'm following orders too :)

Have someone standing by the side of the course for the downhill portion at the end with a Razor scooter and just ride down.

Good idea?

Rachel~

Thanks!! If it weren't SGM I would probably take a big 'ol DNS. However, I love SGM -- just seems like a big party!!! AND ... Annie and I already have our matching outfits ... AND ... I want to see Fonz nail this course (even with a sports hernia) ... AND ... I need a break from school ... AND ... I just want to be with all you guys!!! :) :) :)

Rob~

Hmmmm ... I definitely didn't see any official rules specifically ix naying "Razor scooters." You might be onto something there. Or ... perhaps I will just position myself next to some big burly guys (good looking ones, of course) who will insist on carrying me down the hills since the thought of a damsel in distress makes them cringe. So many options!!!!! :)

From Tom Slick on Sun, Sep 25, 2011 at 16:50:41 from 69.171.160.127

Looks like you have the problem under control! Now go and run a really smart SGM and come home without a re-injury!!!! CAn't wait to meet up with ya in St.Geo......

From Smooth on Sun, Sep 25, 2011 at 21:29:55 from 174.27.201.64

SSF ~ I am glad to hear the Pn B LE (whatever they mean) are seeing improvement! The 3/10 seems more encouraging as well. I just remember that you used to rate your pain on a scale level. Will you quit being so scientific and intelligent about it? :) :) :) :) Seriously, I don't know how you do it all. Juggling school, family, church, friends with so much passion and gusto.

Anyway, lots of great xtraining this week with some smart miles in there as well!:) :) :)

You will do GREAT with or without a razor scooter or good looking big burly guys. :) You will have so much fun knowing that Annie and I will be running in your footsteps and you chasing after Fonz to make sure he doesn't aggravate his sports hernia! :)

I am excited to see you. I miss you so so so so so much!

I have a question! How do you keep the KT tape on? I've been taping my knee Friday night (before the marathons). I prep the skin with alcohol wipes and tape securely as described on the video. But inevitably the tape will come off mid-run. It is only held together where the compression sleeve band touches. The anchor ends of the KT tape can be seen flapping around in all my race photos. So I'm not sure if they even helped. I wish you could've taped me up 'cause your taping jobs stayed on me for days! :) What did I do wrong?

Love and miss you! Hope you have a great week. Can't wait to see you on Sat. :)

Slick~

In order to really get my body to where it should be I will need to take some time off. :) I am planning on doing that after SGM. :)

SSF~

You are so so so thoughtful. Please do not hesitate to call me when you need me. PLEASE!!!! As for the taping job: would you like me to tape you before SGM? KT tape is notorious for coming lose unless you put some sort of pre-tape spray on first (Mueller has a good one). However, I have found that Mueller also makes their own version of kinesio tape that sticks MUCH better than KT tape. You can usually buy it at Walgreens along with their other taping products (athletic tape, etc.). The draw backs are these: it only comes in black and it shreds a bit. However, it is what I have been using and it seems to do a very decent job (and stays on). :) As for the abbreviations. I need to train my brain to document as PT-esque as possible since we are graded on our documentations on EVERYTHING: homework, labs, quizzes, exams, etc. "Pn B LE" is simply: "Pain in bilateral (both) lower extremities (legs)." :) Love and miss you so so so much! Did you get my text?

From Smooth on Sun, Sep 25, 2011 at 22:06:17 from 174.27.201.64

SSF ~ OK, I will look for the Mueller pre-tape spray.

Thanks for deciphering the abbreviations! :) I just looked at your text! VERY CUTE!!!

Dang it, stupid stupidness. Just go an have fun, and drop out if you have to! Better to quit in one piece than finish in pieces!! There will always be another marathon (or 5,000).

From Teena Marie on Mon, Sep 26, 2011 at 00:07:41 from 174.27.200.245

SSF~

Would you like me to tape you up? I'd be happy to.

Kel~

I feel zero pressure for this race. Seriously, zero. Ry and I had a very good talk the other night and it makes total sense that I am injured. Seriously, I have been so stressed: not eating enough, not sleeping enough, school, family, etc. Something was bound to give. I am just happy that it was my body and not my brain!!! Seriously. No more stressing out about running for me until PT school is over. :) :) :)

From Teena Marie on Mon, Sep 26, 2011 at 00:08:16 from 174.27.200.245

BUT ... I still want to run SGM. I love St. George and am excited for the short getaway! :) :) :)

From DaleG on Mon, Sep 26, 2011 at 00:16:54 from 184.223.161.116

Teena, I know exactly how you feel about St George. I love it, too!!! I might attempt to run it. I will decide on Friday. I'm sure you'll do just fine. I'm glad you will take some time off after the race.

SGM - 4 days 22 hours

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 26, 2011 at 23:10:10 from 71.219.67.175

I feel zero pressure as well and I LIKE it! This is my favorite marathon and I just want to enjoy it (although I am very worried about the heat---that makes it a bit less enjoyable!)

I agree with Ryan, it is time to focus and school and yourself and just let running be a tension breaker when you need it! You push yourself so hard in all aspects of your life, something is bound to give or break!!! Glad you got some perspective with your chat. Hopefully life will seem less stressful for you now!

HURRY UP and graduate, I am falling apart and will need you!

From Rhett on Tue, Sep 27, 2011 at 20:08:16 from 74.32.213.84
