12.6 miles with the Chumps. Had a good size group this morning -- so so so so so glad Smooth made it! :)

Unfortunately, had major leg problems and pain. STINK. I am glad the chumps were with me because they made me stop and walk. I walked an additional 4-5 miles home, Slick was kind enough to walk me with. Thank you so much Slick, you are a wonderful friend for whom I am extremely grateful. If I had not been with the group I know I would have continued to run through the pain until I got home. Hopefully their wisdom will save me some healing time.

** I tried to run different paces to see if anything would help. Nothing. Dang. :(

_________

** 6 hours later:

Okay, after going through the "why can't my body handle this"  and "I am so stinkin' mad" phases I am feeling emotionally better. Here's the up side: last time I felt this type of pain was during my 22 miler before Boston. Last time I ran a whole 22 miles through it. This time, however, I only ran about half that. SO ... who knows ... maybe a week of rest is all I need! :)

I am SO SO SO glad everyone made me stop. Thanks Chumps!!!

___________

** Sunday morning:

Now that the swelling is starting to go down I don't think it is the same injury as before Boston. This might just be shinsplints. I just don't know.

Dangit Teena!!! That just plain stinks, again. Kudos to Slick for walking you home. Yes, you know what to do to get better. Whatever it takes.

From Smooth on Sat, Jul 03, 2010 at 14:22:26 from 174.23.191.197

Oh SSF!!! I am so so so so so so sorry you're hurt! :( It just breaks my heart. I just don't understand why this keeps happening. Please know that we think the world of you! You know I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH, right? Please let me know what I can do to help. Oh, and we need to do lunch!

LOVE YOU!!!!

Well glad you decided to listen the the chumps and walked it in. It was great to run with everyone again and even the fact that you got Smooth and Slick to come down even made it that much better. I am looking forward to running more the with chumps so heal up fast.:)

I am so sorry you are in pain. I know how frustrating that is for you. You and Rhett should start a "runner in healing phase" blog and talk about therapy and rest until you turn blue in the face. Rest and then rest some more! Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Stinkyness! I too hate to hear about the pain rearing it's ugly head again. However, I AM glad you listened to coach's reason and had a nice WALK home! Heal well and you'll be back in no time to top shape - I know it!

From Kelli on Sat, Jul 03, 2010 at 18:13:35 from 71.219.99.30

YOU PLEASE TAKE CARE!!!!! We will do lots of swimming next week and NO RUNNING!

Glad you were smart and did not run through the pain. You are smart, you will get this figured out.

From Rhett on Sat, Jul 03, 2010 at 22:36:16 from 184.10.154.170

Teena, I'm so sorry you are in enough pain to keep you from running. For you that is a lot of pain. Is it the same injury that was bothering you before Boston? If so, like you said, you bounced back from that pretty quickly and ran some great marathons. If you need someone to commiserate with, I'll be here (not running) for you.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 04, 2010 at 10:49:32 from 174.52.45.85

Rachel -- Slick was GREAT!!

Kelli -- The pool it is!!!

Rhett -- Wish you lived closer so we could commiserate during a long deep pool run! :) This morning I am feeling confident that it is no where near as bad as it was before Boston. I ran Boston, albeit in pain, 3 weeks after injury. So, hopefully, I will be running in a week or so. Who knows. I thought it was the same pain yesterday, but it is not. I think this just might be shinsplints. Not sure.

Your an amazing runner! Give your body the rest it wants, It will repay you later. Im glad you walked and that you have friends to walk beside you. I hope you feel better soon. RICE!!!!

I'm so sorry that the injury is coming back but am so proud of you for doing the right thing.

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jul 04, 2010 at 11:38:30 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Amy!!! Just wrapped my leg up in ice! Thanks for the reminder.

Andy -- I am so so so glad that I was encouraged to stop running. This morning I woke up and I am already seeing improvement. I don't think this will be more than a week setback. Whereas if I would have done the usual, who knows how long I would be out. If you ever have a free Saturday you should come join us.

From Smooth on Sun, Jul 04, 2010 at 15:46:35 from 174.23.191.197

SSF ~ I'm glad to hear the leg is showing signs of improvement. That's encouraging! No more injury,,,please!

How was Eclipse? Rylee is the best...such a good girl. You have wonderful children! Ry is one lucky man!

LOVE YOU!

From timp on Mon, Jul 05, 2010 at 20:18:04 from 66.167.51.119

sorry to hear you are hurting again Teena. I hope things heal quickly for you.

From Smooth on Mon, Jul 05, 2010 at 22:41:32 from 174.23.191.197

How are you feeling today? A thought came to me when I was thinking about you on my run this morning. (You know I think of you often, right?). But today I thought about your recent leg pain. I'm thinking may be some of the new workouts you were doing like the stairmaster and incline TM running might have something to do with *taxing* some of the muscles not normally used. Anyway, I have a feeling that you will be fine given some rest. I'm glad you didn't run through the pain. Hope you're having a great 5th of July. Love and miss you already.

From Teena Marie on Tue, Jul 06, 2010 at 00:17:17 from 174.52.45.85

Thanks Tim!!! :)

SSF -- Funny you should say that. I went back and looked through my blog and noticed that the majority of time I felt more than average pain on a long run is when I had done hillwork on the TM the run before. However, I think my biggest problem is I haven't ever let my body heal from when it was injured before Boston. Each time I start feeling a little better I begin running again ... including three marathons in three months.

I am super happy that everyone made me stop running on Saturday when they did. My body is recovering so much faster than it would be otherwise. I feel a little better each day. :)

Love and miss you so much! We have been busy doing LOTS of family stuff with Ry's family and friends. Campouts, swimming, game nights, BBQs, wiffle ball, dinners, etc. I am very sad that Ry has to go back to work tomorrow. Dang!

We need to get together soon. Like I said, I miss you! (Oh yeah, I have a call in to Matt -- I think some good active release will help my body out tremendously.) :)

From Tom Slick on Tue, Jul 06, 2010 at 10:27:01 from 168.179.157.36

Hey girly girl, just take the time it takes to heal up completely. Don't push it back into service before it's healed or you will be right back in the same world of hurt you have experiencing for the last who knows how long. Be sure to get in some "pool" time during your recovery...the pool has magic heeling powers ("no impact")!

From Rhett on Tue, Jul 06, 2010 at 12:40:53 from 173.84.238.79

Be really careful Teena. I thought I had shin splints and it ended up being a stress fracture. If I would have backed off for a few weeks when it first happened I probably would be running right now. Instead I waited until it got so painful I could barely walk, and well you know the rest of the story.
