Long-Term Running Goals:

I love training with others both on road and trail. I also find benefits of running solo when I need to focus and regroup.

Fun fact: Although I prefer to run outside, I don't mind the treadmill for pace accountability and for the blind assumption that I can run really fast. I have a lot of secret treadmill PR's at 0% incline:)

Cross training here and there, without much direction. Finally had Dr. appointment today with sports doc who told me what I had already suspected. Lower disc issues and hamstring pull. PT starting next Monday. I'm excited becuase after following up next month, he is going to get me into a running clinic evaluation that my insurance will pay for since it is considered PT:)! All races on hold. Sanity still in check so far.

lower disc issue, huh? !!! sounds VERY familiar :D. We must help each other through this. My hamstring problem really is radicular pain (disc) problem. The pain was so intense yet NO bruising in the hamstring???? then my back was very painful....hmmmm...ankle and foot going numb and tingly....--- now no hamstring pain since I am NOT running-- but it was really the sciatic nerve in the back of my leg. So weird that you and I are dealing with this at the same time. What happened to last year???? man alive. It is not like I have a lot of time before SGM. I am on a steroid taper-- worked a bit but the tingling and back pain is there....steroid shot is next. My chiro was awesome and is awesome but not paid for by insurance either so I think PT would be best. You will have to tell me how you like yours. Who are you going to? There is also a therapy called "Ozone" that I would like to try. My neighbor's husband and other family members swear by it for joint and disc problems. They were magically "cured". Look it up and tell me what you think. take care Tara!!

Julie- good to hear from you. What to do about our broken bodies!? Sounds like you have some more aggressive strategies that I need to look in to. Yeah, I'll try the PT route. I havent done much other than the ultrasounds tens stuff. So do you have a nerve problem triggering your hamstring? The Doc thinks I might but mine def feels like a tear sicnce it's sore and achy. How would you describe yours mrs Julie?

when it came on in that race with Kim pacing it was sharp out of no where--- I thought my hamstring was tearing off my thigh-- it was that pinpointed but then my back started to hurt a half hour later. And NO bruising. If my hamstring really was in THAT much pain it would be seen as third degree with bruising. The chiro said he could see bruising at the finish line and said it was a second degree-- but I had just had someone off the street dig their elbow into my hamstring to "silence" it at mile 25. NOW my whole leg is burning and going numb to my ankle and toes. I have had on and off radicular pain on the left for years but never anything that has stopped me in my tracks from running. MY chiro says my SI joint is out. He showed me on a mannequin. Every day I have electricity like feeling down my legs and burning in my hip so I think the DISC is involved in the impingement. I had an MRI 4 years ago and it showed central disk protrusion in two places but only minimally and some crowding of exiting nerve root and a dry disc. Obviously I worked out those issues except a lot of my running on the blog talks about my left leg bugging me. Time to get to the bottom of this. I remember saying before races even 7 years ago-- I wish my left leg felt like my right leg. DOWN with pain. I can be rebuilt!! and so can you!! I even have muscle atrophy on my left leg and my right leg has over compensated and has more muscle in the quads. Funny huh?? WEak link I guess. HOw's that for wordiness. Keep up with the PT and I am sure you can avoid what I am going thru for now as it seems that lower backs have and expiration date past 40 years of age!! I will keep you updated. It is worrying me as more and more of my leg is getting numb and tingly with the burning. Running is not even in my thougts with this problem. Hope I don't blimp out!!

So I guess you weren't at the 5K this morning, then huh? I'm glad you're getting somewhere with everything and that your ins will pay for the clinic! Keep us posted. :)

I'm glad you got in, Tara. Hopefully the docs will point you in the right direction.
