I don't know if I mentioned on Friday that my left big toe was feeling bruised under the nail after the 18 miler.  It wasn't hurting too bad this weekend or during my run this morning but it hurts now. I'm nervous about this. I've heard of people losing toenails but not on the big toe. I hope it gets better and not worse. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about it. Anyone know?

I did Yoga Meltdown (killer chaturanga push ups, etc) after my run this morning on-demand. That's when I started feeling my toe, going into down dog every time. Maybe that's what made it worse. I guess I'm just wondering, can a bruised toe heal, or does the toenail always end up dying and falling off? Maybe I'll google it. Pretty sure running would be quite difficult without my big toenail:(

Talk to Kelli about losing nails. She's an expert.

it might take awhile, but it will most likely fall off. surprisingly it feels better after it comes off. fun stuff.

nice run this morning to start the week. i just noticed you are planning on top of utah for your first marathon. you couldn't have chosen a better one to run! you will do great.

Losing a toenail is a runners right of passage, you should be excited about this!

Thanks for the responses and encouragement. I was just reading about your run today Allie and you are so incredibly fast. You are amazing!

She's ok.

Hey, my nose was itching because someone was talking about me!!! The second toenail I ever lost was the BIG TOE, so, yes, it happens!

Here is my advice to *TRY* and save it: see if you can poke a pin into the blister through the top of the nail and then squeeze the heck out of it (ouch) and wrap it up in a band-aid. Do this maybe two times a day. This has worked for me a few times and I have not lost the nail. If you do lose the nail, it is no biggie (and it really does make you very cool---although cool with ugly toes). You can let it grow out and not take the old nail off----just let it fall off. Most of the time by then the new nail is at least half grown back!!!

GOOD LUCK!

I loved reading your running story and about your goals! I think you will do a great job at TOU! I will be there pacing my cute Yoga instructor through her first marathon, maybe we will run across each other at some point.

And Chaturanga is HARD---very impressive. You probably have biceps and triceps of steel.

No arms of steel here. I do love yoga. I've been doing Bryan Kest Power Yoga for a few years and love it! I just started a new Yoga Meltdown on demand that I like. I tried Bikram yoga for 30 days before I had my 5th baby and that was intense. You do Yoga right?

From Kelli on Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 19:37:05 from 71.219.102.155

I do Yoga once a week and then a bunch of the hip openers and stuff on my own all of the other days of the week, but I am not a very bendy person!!! I do love it, though.
