I cut this run short with foot pain.  Afterward, I went to the clinic again and actually saw a doctor this time, who confirmed anterior tibial tendonitis.  I think ideally he would like a couple weeks rest, but he took the position that I was probably going to run anyway and was behind me going for the marathon (or he at least accepted that this was what I was going to do, and would try to get me there).  He gave me more anti-inflammatories and said I probably wouldn't do any major damage to the tendon but advised it wouldn't really heal until I stopped running.  But I can run while on this meloxicam stuff, so I think I will give it a go in a couple days to see if the medicine has dulled the pain.  Apparently it will hurt bad enough, even with the anti-inflammatories in my system, to let me know if/when something is really wrong.  Anyway, the whole visit made me feel a lot better and now I have a gameplan...just hope I can get through the next 2 months without any major setbacks.  There's plenty of time to rest starting January 31.

I gotta hand it to the doctor, he's pretty smart about the runner mentality and isn't trying to fight it. Tendonitis is a bear--annoying and hard to get rid of. I had peroneal tendonitis(twice) within my first 6 months of running. Sorry if I already said this before, btw. But, anyways, stretching and ice was all a crock and didn't help--but nsaids did! :) Is there a way to tape it with athletic tape to make running more comfortable?

Thanks April - doesn't seem like there are any good taping methods for this one, but I'll hunt around.

You know, all I read is stuff that makes you feel like if you take nsaid while running, or to get through a run, you're the dumbest person in the world. But this actual doctor didn't seem to have a problem with it at all...

If you can run on it, you aren't going to get hurt and it makes you feel better then there really isn't any reason not to do it. I have noticed that all of the doctors in my family seem much more relaxed about side effects than me. Most FDA-approved medicines are pretty safe at the end of the day, I think.
