I actually had a pretty darn good time working at a couple aid stations at Bandera.  First with the Rockhoppers, then with Team RWB.  I probably would've stayed all night (even though I only committed to 6 hours) but there's no cell phone coverage through most of the park...I might've shown up on a milk carton.  Pretty cool to see things from that perspective, and I managed to keep my jealousy/bitterness of missing the race in check...

Has to be one of the worst-timed injuries ever, given how ready you were for this one, really sorry about it. Actually, I have always wanted to volunteer, but vicariously is OK I guess.

You're a good guy, Joe. I got injured just before a race but still spectated. I watched Paul (from the blog) and Jake come in and then I went and drank whiskey. It was a hell of a bender and 15 lbs of lard in 8 weeks to follow. Not an example to follow by any means.

Nicely done. So, does keeping the jealousy/bitterness in check mean you only put vinegar in 1/2 of the water you handed out? I'd call that a win... Very cool of you to help out at the race, it had to be hard to watch instead of race. How's the foot?

Volunteering is good stuff. The perspective is different, and it's inspiring, too. Good to see you were able to get out and help despite not being able to run.

Thanks all. Had the MRI tonight, and should get some results tomorrow or the next day. Still feels pretty crappy but a negative result could always change my perspective...

Jason: +10 lbs here from the ol' racing weight as of this morning, and the self-pity is starting to kick in nicely...

I figured I'd give myself a pass until I get those results, then take some kind of action...whether it's swimming or whatever. This injury coincided nicely with another ridiculously busy period at work, so fortunately I haven't had much time to be depressed (and as a bonus, I learned that I'm pretty productive at 6am when no one else is around in the office to bug me).
