7:40 avg pace.  3 easy + 8 GMP.

3 easy @ 8:01

8 GMP @ 7:32 (splits were 7:35, 7:34, 7:37, 7:32, 7:26, 7:31, 7:32, 7:31)

Lately I've been doing my GMP runs a little faster -- having delusions of grandeur thinking I might be able to crack 3:20.  I keep hoping this pace will feel like MP.  Still not quite.  I'm sure I can hold it for a long time, 2 hours no problem...maybe 2.5...but more than that?  Don't know.

Looking at McMillan equivalent paces it seems like I should be right on top of it:

--5K @ 6:36 pace?  Basically did it my last race.

--5mi @ 6:48 pace?  Did 5mi tempo recently @ 6:54...at the end of an 11-mile run.

--HM @ 7:15 pace?  Ran 7:26 pace on what was supposed to be a 13.1 MP run but got carried away, just messing around.

Still gotta think about it awhile since 3:20 doesn't really hold any significance for me, and I'd like to just have a good time with the race.

Nice pace for the run.

What are the temps like out your way? It's bitter cold here, still. Right now it's about 14 degrees here. Brrrr.

Hey DG - actually in the winter, this place has perfect running weather in the morning: 40-50 degree lows, very little wind, not much rain, etc.

Sounds like perfect weather!

I have no good advice, other than thinking that you are quite fast and you have the drive to do it. Maybe be conservative the first few miles of the race and build into what you think you can do. I say go for it.

Considering how strong you felt and your strong finish on your 20-miler, I think you can do it. That's my two cents. Listen to your body during the race and if it feels good at that pace and you're not straining--go for it!

Thanks Tracy & April. That is good advice from both. I'm thinking of starting with a 1:41 or so for the 1st half (low 7:40s). That way I can decide in the 2nd half whether to go for the negative split, and I still haven't worked hard enough for the bonk to be inevitable yet (hopefully). Don't even know if that makes sense, but here's hoping!
