AM:  Not sure on the mileage but it was at least 13...  One of my running nightmares came true - my car key must've fallen out of my shorts somehow and I was locked out of my car.  I frantically looked up and down the trail for it and finally ended up jogging to Walmart (shirtless) and asked a mechanic if I could use his phone, and my wife brought the other key.  So lots of extra miles running/jogging/walking back and forth.

PM:  88F, 63% (HI 96F).  4 @ 8:15 AP.  Going to start tracking heat index for these PM runs now that it's getting hotter.  I think I'll be ok throughout the summer as long as it's just 4-5 slow miles, but we'll see.  I think trying to suck it up and run in the heat will have some benefits, even if it just makes the morning runs comfortable by comparison.

Ohh Bummer! I've had that happen to me, so I got a spy belt!

I really appreciate that Saucony put the zipper pocket on the back of all their split shorts. Puts my mind at ease. I hated the fold-over kind where there was always a 50% chance of losing your key.

Is going to Walmart shirtless allowed? I would assume so based on what you typically see in there :-)

The advantage of clutching the keys is that you can stab if attacked (more useful for Jason in Philly). Sierra Trading Post is the place for Saucony shorts - you can almost always find a coupon for ~40% off. The back pocket is perfect sized for keys/work ID (especially useful for me since my legs double as my car 95% of the time).

Bummer. I carry the house keys around my finger (wear the key ring like a ring and tuck the keys into my palm). If it isn't humid I use my zipper pocket. If I my car key I carry it so it doesn't fry in my shorts. I ran the mile with 2-3 key fobs once because the stupid Indiana rental companies would lock them all together.

Every rental car company does that! It's so annoying - what is the point of permanently attaching the spare keys to the main set? If you lose one, you lose both. The rental company should hold onto the extras. Probably my second biggest pet peeve.

Before zipper pockets were standard I always used to tie my key to my shoe.

The guys at Walmart seemed like shirtless guys must approach them every day (it's right by a bus stop too - typical weirdo hangout). I'll definitely be clutching my keys in my tight little fist for awhile until I can get it copied. Maybe I need to look into the saucony shorts bc none of mine have zippers...

There is an unofficial Walmart site somewhere that pictures their typical customers. If you can find it, it will give you comfort. I would generally consider a bus stop slightly higher on the scale. (Jason, I asked a car rental company about that once and they said I was welcome to cut the cable to separate the keys, as long as I brought them both back. Now the only problem is getting wire cutters through security.)

There you go. As you can see, you only need to put on your shirt for the bus stop.

Spend $20 on a spibelt. http://www.spibelt.com/. I got it to hold my music but also good for chapstick, keys, etc. and I use it on any run where I'm not carrying water. It could also carry a lightweight concealed weapon of your choice for the next time you go to Wal-Mart shirtless.
