73F, 91%.  7:45 AP.  A real slog fest today, sucks that it is only going to get hotter for the next 2 months!  In fairness, I probably should've started earlier - as I was leaving, the sun was just beginning to rise, and shade does not exist out here on the plains, so I got a face full of sun the whole time.  Anyway, I really suffered through the last 6 or 7 but I feel like I should make some kind of long run attempt every once and awhile this summer since the marathon is my long-term focus.  So I guess I did that today.

Just slow down and know that you are tough, and if you do enough of these kinds of runs you will be tearing it up come the cool weather!!!

Very tough to get those LRs in when you're in training cycle limbo. Hard to see the benefits when you're already in decent shape from the previous cycle and the marathon is still a ways off.

Dan - thanks - not sure I can keep up 2 workouts a week all summer but will play it by ear

I have to agree with Neil. I don't think you are gaining much, if anything, to be doing 17 mile long runs out of cycle, compared to say a 12 or 14 miler. But hey, you gotta do what you think is right. I know a 14 miler for you is just a regular daily run. :-) Good job getting through it.

I think I figured I had to maintain some kind of LR currency or it would be harder to build that endurance back up. Maybe that is not the case? Believe me, I will look for any excuse NOT to do them this summer, especially when I'm already having issues recovering from speedwork during the week.
