73F, S 20-30 mph.  Running in Abilene again if you couldn't tell by the wind.  I headed up to CR 100, my best E/W road, and ran with a nice lean (in crosswinds) for 60% of the run.

AP 7:55 today, with a sizeable negative split, and a solid effort.  I think I have gotten as acclimated to heat running as I will get.  Even in July/August it won't be a great deal warmer than this (I hope).  My guess is the same effort would've been worth about 20 sec/mile faster in cooler temps, so it's affecting me but not nearly as bad as a week ago.

That is a really nice run, congratulations. I was cooler than you this morning (not me, the weather), at least to start.

Thanks Flat, looks like you got the cold air we had yesterday. Sorry to say it didn't hang around an extra day (at least not here), would've been nice for your 5k.

A for effort.

Hey Joe,

How are you keeping hydrated on you longer runs? Do you carry water?

From SlowJoe on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:08:19 from 184.79.24.255

Thanks Burt, A-minus on your comment.

IJR - Now that it's hot, starting about this distance (14 miles) I use a fuel belt with 20 oz gatorade, plus carry a 20 oz gatorade bottle to nurse for the first 5 or 6 miles. When it was cooler, the fuel belt didn't come out unless I was doing 18+, and I would just carry a 20 oz gatorade for the first few miles if I was running 14-18.

Any extra credit?

I could be bribed.

Nice to know you have some scruples.

From JG on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:47:15 from 74.190.55.181

Nice 14 miler at a good pace! I really struggle with getting those in in the summer.

From seeaprilrun on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 18:06:41 from 174.70.177.86

Good long run in the heat! The one good thing is when the temps finally cool you will feel like you are FLYING in the fall!

From SlowJoe on Sat, May 28, 2011 at 09:30:13 from 184.79.24.255

Burt - the scruples are for sale too.

JG - thanks, I'm going to try and run a lot of this distance this summer - we'll see if I survive.

April - thanks, I think I'm ready for that day to come now.
