5:30am, 52F.  With the crazy temperature drop, my plans quickly changed from easy run to tempo run.  4 ez, followed by 4 tempo.

4 warmup miles, 8:16 avg.  4 tempo miles, 7:07 avg (7:15, 7:16, 7:08, 6:49).  Ahhh.  Went ahead and emptied the tank on the last mile.  At the end I was covered with snot and saliva and it felt great.  7:41 AP for all 8.  I knew temperature was important but this is my proof, I guess.

My reward for suffering through the summer should be absolutely perfect running weather for marathon training these next 2 months.  This really is the perfect winter running destination, low wind, temps should be 40s and 50s, flat terrain, only occasional mortar attacks.  Looking forward to starting official marathon training next week!

Whew. Good pace on the tempo miles! I chuckled a little at your description of your perfect running destination. It just reminds me that I appreciate what you do!

The good thing is that you can probably count on no mortar attacks in Houston. I looked on the site and it doesn't specifically state that, but I assume that's understood.

Yea for cool temps! You deserve them.

NICE tempo miles! I can't believe official training starts next week already! I'm dreading a few of the workouts but looking forward to getting into real marathon racing shape!

just curious--what did you set your max mileage week for?

From SlowJoe on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 19:44:51 from 214.13.130.104

Thanks Tracy, it really is going to be nice!

SJG - It's like Abilene winter but without freezing temps and wind.

April - me too! Right now, planning for my biggest week to be 64.

From SlowJoe'sGrl on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 19:52:48 from 184.79.24.255

Yes, I know the Houston winters. It seems I used to live there for a few years after college. Remember that girl, your newlywed. That was me.

I meant the weather here. So sassy!

From SlowJoe'sGrl on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 19:59:20 from 184.79.24.255

Ohhh...I see.

From baldnspicy on Wed, Nov 03, 2010 at 22:30:13 from 72.77.120.222

Be grateful for the mortar attacks. They give you the terrain to get in a quick up and down and up again as you run through the crater. Count it as hill work.

Oh, and 64 is a good mpw goal. Mine will be lower, I think based on what I'm planning right now, but I hope to max at 50+. I'll have to see if the dainty feet can handle it. :-)

Love your description. I agree with SJG, the Houston marathon should be quite safe since it is run entirely on the west side.

B&S - great idea! Hopefully my legs don't fall off at that mileage. Hopefully I'm not being stupid.

Flat - good point, West U and the Galleria are pretty nice compared to 3rd ward.
