Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

I dragged my husband on the same hike I went on a  few weeks ago.  That was a huge sacrifice for him, because (1) he doesn't like to hike; and (2) his beloved Arizona Cardinals began playing at 2:00, so he missed the first hour of the game.  The hike is very steep, and my husband is now determined to take his mountain bike up there and get a "real" workout.

I was not nearly as tired as I was the last time I did this hike, which was very encouraging.  We took some cool pictures.  I won't be able to run again until Wednesday.

I ran with my friends again tonight.  I actually took the Garmin this time, and we averaged 11:09.  It felt very easy, and I felt strong at the end.  It's coming back, slowly but surely.  We're running 6 miles again tomorrow night, and I might actually do 10 miles with her on Saturday!  I don't know how that's going to go...

I ran with my girlfriend again.  We had our now-customary Gatorade pit stop at my house.  We ran 2 seconds per mile faster than we did last night (11:07).  She roped me into running 10 miles with her on Saturday!  That will be interesting...

Wow, I cannot believe I ran 11 miles.  The plan was ten, which I was very hesitant about, but we tacked on an extra mile.  I ran with a friend, and then another friend met up with us about 4 miles into the run.  We sped up after we met her.  Our average pace was 10:51.  I still have a long way to go, but I am encouraged by the fact that I was able to do 11 miles without dying.  Now I just need to get back below 10:00 pace.  I am going to be SO sore tomorrow.  We had a good breakfast at Paradise Bakery when we finished.
