Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

The weather was so much nicer this morning: about 70 degrees with a very light rain for about the first mile.  I ran 7 miles in 1:08:23, a 9:46 average.  Nothing exciting, really, but it was nice to be back outside after being inside most of last week.  I'm shooting for 47 miles this week, which will probably be my highest mileage week ever!

My husband is still injured.  He is pretty discouraged.  :-(  I really want us to be able to do St. George together, so I hope he gets better soon.

It nice to have a cooler morning isn't it? You did awesome on your run this morning!

I hope your husband gets better. Is he more moody than usual? My hubby is extra grumpy when he can't run. Good luck with that.

Hi Shauna,

I am sorry about your husband being injured -- finding the right balance between pushing and pushing too hard is really the most difficult part of training.

I kept meaning to post last week about your question re: mental toughness ... I think that racing helps keep this mental toughness up. Even if they are races that you treat as "workouts" - they keep you feeling competative and give you that knowledge that you can do it, even when it hurts. This is something that I struggle with as well.

Great job today! Good luck with your mileage goals this week - I love building - it is easy to see improvement.

You're having an AMAZING mileage week! Sorry to hear about your hubby being injured. When is your next race? It will be so fun to FINALLY meet you at the SGM!
