Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

AARRGGHH!  I'm not pre-blogging today because I don't know if I'll be able to run.  :-(  I am having pain in the ball of my right foot.  It started yesterday, mid-day, and got progressively worse as the day went on.  It was hurting constantly by the time I went to bed last night and REALLY hurt when I woke up.  But now it feels OK.  Hmmm.....

If it continues to feel OK, I'll run tonight.  I would guess my work stilettos are not the best shoes to be wearing.  Any suggestions on how to make this go away would be appreciated.

Today I will run vicariously through the rest of you bloggers!

PM-Well, I am just so excited I can hardly stand it.  I ran 6 miles at my normal pace in 100+ degree weather, and I felt great!  My foot feels fine now.  Go figure...I ran a different route than usual, which I really enjoyed.

Total time was 58:10, a 9:41 average pace.  My splits were 9:27, 9:45, 9:43, 9:52, 9:46, and 9:32.

It's amazing that I can run this well when it's over 100, but a few miles in 90+ degrees after I've already run 10 or so miles is an entirely different story!

I really needed this.  I worked until 7 pm tonight, and I have a long, important day tomorrow.  Running is the best!

Sorry you're in pain, Shauna! I've never had pain on the ball of my foot, so no idea what it could be, but resting seems to be a good idea... does it hurt to the touch? Could it be a bruise? You should post it on running injuries on the discussion board and see what the experts say. Get better soon!

I have had that and it's just been a bruise but you never know. I have stopped wearing heels as I have gotten more serious about running. I will occasionally feel fresh enough to wear them, but I find I am often feeling banged up in the legs in one way or another, so its best to stay away from them. I hope your foot feels better soon. If it hurts through today I would make an appointment with a doctor. You can always cancel the appt if it gets better, but if not you can get in quicker.

Hi Shauna,

I pretty much am off heels whenever I can be, although I really don't have a choice sometimes ... and for those times I am now wearing Rockport pumps - they are actually quite cute, and don't hurt my feet at all. I do admit that I take them off whenever I can hide my feet though and stretch my foot a lot during the day whenever I wear them. You can try icing ... and, if you are into homopathic solutions a couple of Arnica pills can't hurt (they are supposed to help with bruising, but a recent study on women who had some sort of facial surgery - probably cosmetic - did not find a difference in bruising over time in those that took it versus the placebo -- I still take it sometimes placebo effect or not!).

Take care!

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I am SO relieved to hear it's probably just a bruise! I don't know if I can give up heels though. I like the way they make my legs look (which, as my "problem" area, needs all the help it can get!), and I have to wear them with slacks and suits. We'll see...

Bonnie, I am definitely open to homeopathic remedies!

I bought some pills at our local health food store, I generally save them for real "bruises" or severe muscle pain (though there is a competative cyclist I work with who takes the pill form all the time). I also have a cream form that I use more often (it is supposedly not as effective). Here is a link: http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/arnica-000222.htm

Yeah, I hear those strip clubs in Utah are pretty strict on their outfit requirements... Hahahahahaha!

The high heels get me pretty bad too. Arisoles are pretty and are very comfy.

I love it when the pain just goes away, YAY!

100+ degree running? that is insane!

Great job.
