Race: Cedar Canyon Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:34:20, Place overall: 31, Place in age division: 2
Total Distance
13.50

Aftern no running on Thursday and Friday due to driving I ran the Cedar Canyon Half Marathon. The race conditions were very good with thin cloud cover for most of the race. I didn't feel very prepared to race hard but put in a good effort anyway. I held back on the top 5-6 miles not wanting to run too hard but still averaged low 6's. After 9 1/2 miles I was on course to break 1:30 but got a bit lazy. I started to get blisters on both feet due to using a new orthotic and it left a gap between my insole and the side of my shoe. I ended up with 2 good sized blisters, one on each foot. I started thinking too  much about them and was mentally weak to push hard. The body felt good but I also was getting pretty tired for the last 3 miles.

The organization was not a good as last year. Waited around for 2 hours after the race for the awards, 2nd in age group, then finally left. They wanted to wait till all had completed the race because there were some potential winners on the course. Most of the award recipients took off....

Yes, I thought that the race organization was a bit sloppy this year. I thought that pretty much everything post race was sub par. No gatorade, hardly any food after, so I went home showered and ate breakfast. Came back and still had to wait. I think that they were having some issues with the timing devise. Work has it that the city bought their own timing system and they may have been having some glitches. It is a fun race but if "they" want it to grow I think they need to pick a different weekend and focus on being better organized. Good job on the race. The down hill can sure beat you up. Good luck with the recovery.

Good job Scott. Get those orthotics worked out before STG.
