Personal:

Born 1972 in north central Wisconsin

Married for 11 yrs to very supportive non-running wife. Two children : Fiona, 6 (in picture) and Elliott (2 yrs)

Co-Race Director of  Delano Park 12 Hour Run (www.delano12.com). President of River City Runners (www.rivercityrunners.org)

3 cats and 1 dog (chocolate lab)

In high school, I was an slightly overweight , badly asthmatic J.V. cross country runner.  I enjoyed being part of the team but never excelled.   The summer after my freshman year in college I decided to run a marathon.  6 weeks later I ran a 3:11 at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth (1991) and I was hooked on long distance running where my asthma wasn't as much of a factor.

Liza and I are getting over a nasty stomach bug.  Had planned to run into work but wouldn't have made it.

ran to work with Wayne.  He took me down an alley and then down a overgrown path , through a briar patch, and came out at a civil war era cemetary in the middle of a woods.  He knew of it when he was in high school (Austin High - late 60's).  Pretty cool.

Run back and forth to work.  Listened to audio book reading of the "The Shack" both ways.  Its about a father dealing with the loss of a child.  There are pros and cons to the book but I gleamed alot of good thoughts that will help me down the road.

Liza was having a massage today so I drove the parking lot outside the office and got in a quick run before she arrived with the kids.   She had a migraine which improved after/during the massage.

back and forth to work.   hot and humid.    72F at 5am.   88F at 4pm.

These runs are convincing me that the camelback is not a good option for the run across alabama.  Its hard for me to drink the amount of water I need from it.  I have no gauge as to how much I'm drinking.  Its much easier for me to use a handheld bottle and drink a 20oz bottle every 20-40 minutes depending on how hot it is.

First mile of the run was a photo shoot for the Decatur Daily.   Elliott and I ran up and down Woodmont while Jeronimo snapped pictures.  Will be in Sunday paper.

93F when I left to head home.  The ice in my camelback didn't melt so i had to refill at Delano Park.  Felt decent.

Ran for an hour to see how much fluid I need to replenish when its really hot.  Today was really hot. 95F and sunny.  The verdict-  5 lbs.  Over 1/2 gallon.  That is heavy drinking.

Taking it easy this week to let my body recuperate.  I'm getting out at noon so that my body remembers what hot feels like.  Today was 89F and it didn't feel bad.
