This marks the first time that I have actively cross trained due to an injury. It looks a though I have developed (or am about to develop) a stress fracture in my left foot. It was not visible in the x-rays but all the signs are there. As a result I get to cross train for four weeks (what a joy!). I have been okayed to take it easy at Ragnar, otherwise it is all about the elliptical.

I did 1 hour on the cross fit machine - 5.88 miles - 178 strides/min - Resistance 7. I was somewhat surprised that a heel plant position did not feel right on the machine (apparently my midfoot/forefoot strike translates to machines as well). Also, what a sweaty mess I was (I will be bringing a towel next time).

ahhh! it's contagious i tell you. i'm so sorry to hear this. we should have a cross training party with all the injured bloggers -- lots of sweating and sulking. it will be fun!

really, i'm sorry and i hope it heals quickly. i have this idea that my bone is going to magically heal itself in two weeks. maybe yours will do the same. we can only hope...

take care, chad.

That is a huge bummer. But now at least you can take up your next favorite sport, swimming. I also highly recommend the stairmaster in you case you haven't checked it out. Good luck with the recovery.

Oh, I am ALL into the cross-training party! No worry about pace either...we'll all be stuck to the ground in the same place :) I have a feeling I'm going to have to take at least a week or two to cross train to get rid of everything in my legs after UVM!

I'm sorry about the prognosis, but the good news is it wasn't visible on the x-ray so there is some hope it will heal quickly if you are smart about it! I'm glad he was willing to clear you for Ragnar, you should have some great fun (even with slow/easy running) that weekend.

I would send you some good healing vibes, but I'm not sure I can spare any...can't spare a square! :)

Thanks, I tend to heal quickly, so hopefully that is the case this time around. On the possitive side my stress fracture is only engaged on foot impact while running (allowing me to nearly all other forms of cross training). I opted out of the MRI to get the true picture of what is going on, but I think some humbling cross training will do me some good. It definately make you appreciate running more. I hope magic healing day comes soon for both of us (and everyone else on the blog).

RAD - Not even a square? Shoot! I think I caught it early and shut it down as soon as it hit. At least I get to get some good people watching in. I kept praying all year to just not get injured before Ogden (prayer answered). I have had my fun and now it is time for some humility/appreciation. Good luck at UVM.

good luck cross training. I hope you heal quickly!

Fritz - I will probably avoid swimming (haaaate it) but I was eying the stair master thinking that if Fritz likes/hates it, it can't be that bad.

Merri - Thanks, I hope the same.

+1 for the stairmaster. you will definitely need a towel for that one...

I think you're right on about the timing, at least it happened after hitting your sub-3 at Ogden. Good luck with the cross training you'll be back at full strength in no time.

OH, a towel is a MUST!!!!!
