So today was the race at BYU. I love that track!!! I don't really know why. It doesn't feel as long as ours at East (well i know its not as long as ours at East it takes 4 times around our track to make a mile but at theirs it takes 5) but maybe it was just the change of scenery. I liked how you couldn't see what was going on at the other side, odd enough. I did a mile warm-up with Camille and Olivia. Then I raced. They put us in some order that obviously makes sense to them but no sense to me. I was in the back. Haha well, at least I was in lane 1. So my race was the first of the day, so I had no idea what to expect, this being my first time. All I knew was that Bill wanted me to get a 6:20, and that was the area I was shooting for, maybe a little faster. Bill was not there for the warming up part, so I doubted he was gonna be there for my race. It was the gun that completely frightened me. Not the incredibly fast time (I had thought at that moment) that Bill wanted me to get, not the spikes of other runners, the gun. It was so loud!!! I started off kind of in the back. Sarah Bischoff was in front of me, and so was Camille. But the gun got my adrenaline going. I ran pretty fast. I was passing tons of people, which made me happy, but I thought I was gonna crash at any moment, so I kept telling myself to slow down. But I only did that when I was boxed in by other people. Well, I thought I was third when Sarah was in front of me. Bill magically popped up out of nowhere and told me to get up to her. So I did. Other side: push away from her. Back to the other side: keep going don't slow down. Stuff like that. I thought I was 2nd when i passed Sarah. That's when I finished my 4th lap, with 1 lap to go, right as I crossed the line to start the last lap they blew the freaking gun again right next to my ear. Okay, not right next to it, but it certainly sounded like it. Scared the bejeebies out of me. Bill was yelling at me to push and I did. I ran as fast as I could. I was so confused because I hadn't caught up to the (imaginary) girl in first, and when I crossed the line I was so confused because I had passed a few of the last place people. I went and sat down on the blanket where our team was. I was happy I got 2nd (I had thought at the time) but worried I didn't get my time. That's when Patrick told me I had won and that I got 6:06. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. Haha I am happy about that. Anyway, when I got home I did a 6 miler, (from my house to sugarhouse, 1 big lap around, 1 small lap around, and back.) 8 miles. |
