Triathlons are my New sport and I LOVE IT

Recent last few years  as I havent done much since I was 16/17yrs, on and off injuries, going out with Friends started. Operations on injuries- compartment syndrome front of the shin had small operation to release the pressure on the fascia.

Oct 2007.  Did the great north run.  ( I was in the elite ladies race, against Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe, Im sure u Americans will recall that race).

I was just in on my previous times from the Bath Half Marathon. I ran it as best as I could off my training & circumstances...

Decided to do my 1st Marathon with London looming in the following April I was in the ladies Elite race again.  So the training was on.  I realise now I didnt give my body enough time to recover as it did break down in the last 5 weeks of my training. Injury bound, with calf and hamstring problems I raced!

London Marathon, April 08 (Injury calf issues) 1st marathon  3hrs.12mins .30 secs

Dublin Marathon  Oct 08  3hrs.01mins.13  undulating and 1 toilet stuck/stop (LOL)

Bath Half 2007    1.26.35 hrs

Wilmslow half marathon english champs    1.25.39

18th lady  (With piriformis injury ).

Liverpool 10k 2008 Oct 37.42mins midst marathon training

Wirral 5k 2009 17.41mins off the back off marathon week

Track 3000ms 10.45mins  hmmm I ran this to get points for my club so I just did tactical and ran on 1st lady shoulder and sprinted at the end !

As a youngster

County Champion for Xcountry and

High Jump

and 1500ms track.

pbs aged 13 yrs old

800ms 2mins 16secs

1500ms 4mins 48 secs

high jump 1metre 53  (cant do this now) and I never trained for it as a kid, just competed alot for points for my club, usually spend 2 hours highjumping, and skip off to do an 800 or 1500ms race then go back to high jump, Wish I took the running more seriously!

Run on more than several occasions for my County against Ireland county of Dublin.

Top 50 finnisher at 14yrs of age in english nationals Xcountry.

Piccy of my 9 mile run, just after running through a field on to some nice muddy tracks.

Nice sunny winter day, damp but not too chilly. went out to do my 9 mile run then added half a mile on to warm down.

my watch played up a bit so I ended up working out an approx time I felt good and I know up till about half way I stuck to 8 min mile pace, then I picked the pace up a bit but not too much.  The fields were muddy, and the tracks too.  1hr 15mins.

I spoke to the gym manager today, as my gym membership was a deal, my husband takes care of the car park shrubbery etc and I get a free membership.... anyway this deal was done with a previous manager, and about 2months ago my card stopped working, I left a message that I can pay or we can do the same deal as I knew the manager had changed.  Long story short I kept leaving messages and the PT's on the door just kept letting me in free of charge :-)

Anyway the manager was on the desk today and I mentioned it to him, anyway I didnt recognise him, he used to throw for my athletics club, then Liverpool Harriers, and then Great Britain, he holds loads of old records in the club, I hold one or two as well, it was really funny as we talked about the old coaches at the club some have died some are still there, it was really nice to speak to someone too that has got were I dream about competing for our country, different training mind but still very hard training.  Then it clicked I realised who he was, a bit slow there wasnt I lol.

I organised for Paul to meet him and go through with exactly what he wants etc, and I can still go in for free, only thing now is everyone knows and I dont have to explain every time I go in yay :-)

Nice! Can't beat FREE. I'm paying for membership at 3 gyms (gym close to my office, gym close to my house, and the gym that has a olympic size indoor pool but no treadmills). All in all about U$120 per month. Its my only vice though (and chocolate, bread, nutella,...)

From Sandy Dune-Howard on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 17:51:47 from 90.201.147.153

Lyman.... free no you cant beat it, must admit I am a full year paid member of the local pool, as its a 25 metre pool I think and the one at the gym is somthing silly like 18metres LOL but I only really swim when Injured as I try to train specific for running and that takes all my time up !

NUTELLA, huge vice of mine, I eat far too much bread with nutella on it mmmmmmm be back later off to get some LOL ;0

From Nan Kennard on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 17:53:32 from 174.51.250.151

Nice Free gym deal! My gym is a sweet deal too, only U$30/month including child care. Doesn't get better than that!

From Lyman on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 18:29:45 from 170.135.241.45

Can you really eat far too much bread with nutella? I think not. ;)

I need a pool year round. I still do enough triathlons that I have to keep my swimming at an acceptable level. I view it as active recovery.

Oh I remember Brown sauce! Nobody has Brown sauce in America. lol Nutella, aww. I did get my kids hooked on it. I actually was the pioneer of it at my local grocery store. They stock it now that its more popular here. You are no doubt asleep right now as I check its 9:15 pm here, but anyrate, good to see your training.

From Sandy Dune-Howard on Thu, Dec 10, 2009 at 04:22:33 from 78.32.130.9

Lyman, nah never too much bread and nutella love it !

It is great active recovery swimming, just wish I had more time, my letter to Santa was more time please LOL

Walter mmmmmmm bacon butties brown sauce, or even sausage bap and brown sauce, mmmmmmm and do you miss Chippy Tea ??? Im starting to sound like Homer Simpson mmmmmmm :-)

Nice! Going to any gym free is a good deal. I'm about to switch gyms in a few months (one closer to my house, plus it has a pool) I was thinking about doing Crossfit, but they charge $85 a month...yikes!

From Barry on Thu, Dec 10, 2009 at 08:29:15 from 24.117.86.40

Great run! Just to let you know we are at -15 degrees right now. Burrrrrrr!!!

From Walter on Thu, Dec 10, 2009 at 09:49:39 from 206.53.153.143

Miss chippy tea. Too funny. Its funny but since my Grandma passed away a few years ago, I havnt seen much of those hanging around. I was in Germany for 2 years as a missionary and lived with a guy that was from Leeds and he catered to me with all that. I think that's were I got hooked on Brown sauce. He sends me that on Christmas occasions. Lol I really must get out there. Soon.

From Sandy Dune-Howard on Thu, Dec 10, 2009 at 16:07:46 from 90.201.147.153

Thanks Guys :)

Barry brrrr very brrrrr but if its a crisp cold i can handle that its the damp cold in this country urghhhh horrid.

Walter- I am not a huge fan of chippy tea's but they are nice once in a while really greasy LOL......

From Walter on Thu, Dec 10, 2009 at 19:36:51 from 76.27.9.2

Runners arent fans of Greasy stuff period. lol However. I can get away with it for now. lol So do you train for triathlons? I shaved off more time when I was swimming and biking last year, but my marathon time dropped 8 minutes by just training for running this year. I think im going to swim more next year.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 05:58:39 from 78.32.130.9

Walter, I once trained for a triathlon and cycled through a hedge and down a ditch, Im am clumsy running ha ha, I like swimming though I can hammer out lengths like real swimmers can..... Usually get asked by the lifeguards if Im a prof swimmer ha ha no I answer Im just a marathon girl whom cant run and is very frustrated LOL

No I dont like greasy food especially when in heavy training I can sometimes stuggle to eat enough, but I somehow manage to get calories down with replacement drinks, I know its not ideal but better than running low on energy.

From Walter on Fri, Dec 11, 2009 at 09:24:17 from 68.171.235.112

Swimming helped my core muscles and the last part of marathon running you rely on your core to maintain your posture. I noticed from pictures taken of marathons where the first few photos I looked good, smile on my face etc. The last few photos my mouth was a little more opened my form was slumpish.

From Samantha Dean-Howard on Sun, Dec 13, 2009 at 13:59:44 from 90.201.147.153

Yeah I agree Walter, core is a great extra stength to have for the marathon :)
