Woke up with really sore legs from yesterday, esp. calves, but I was already registered for the race, so I decided to do it anyway. Warmed up a bit and tried stretching out my soreness which wasn't all that successful. Foot was sore like yesterday while warming up, but felt fine while racing. Pushed it pretty hard the whole race, avg 5:43/mi - fast times since it was downhill like yesterday. If I hadn't run the 10k yesterday, I probably would've been faster, but hey, double double gold medals is pretty fun!

This evening, I went on an easy 5 miler with my little cousin John. Well, I meant it to be around 9:00/mi - I thought he was fast enough, but apparently not... avg. min/mile was 10:47. He kept stopping and I could hardly stand running that slow, so I would run circles around him, up cul-de-sacs and back and took off a couple of times to run faster - so it ended up being 5.68 plus .25 warmup and .25 cooldown. I mean, my legs were freakishly sore, but man, there's no way 5 miles should take and hour to run. I don't think I've run that slow ever.

Ruthie! Wow! You are amazing! I am so proud of you! That is so awesome. You did SO good in both races! You should be so excited. You are such a hard worker and it definitely pays off. Congrats! Course records, PRs, gold medals...what a weekend!

Paul and I were talking about how 10 years ago when we we your age we used to be able to run good races close together. People used to say when you are younger you recover faster, I thought they were just wussy, but now I would agree, and I am not that old yet. Good job on back to back wins! Holt is a lucky coach to have someone like you on his team. I hope that I get a few Ruthios on my teams in my future coaching years.

My mom says when you are 40 you will be happy to run 5 miles in an hour and she says you are awesome. I think you will still be fast at 40.

Holy Sh...mokes! Ruth it was sooo cool to see you accomplish such awesome things. Get on top of that foot pain so you can keep it rolling. Congratulations! I imagine you have everyone in the state shaking in their flats after back-to-back races like that.
