I scored a new pair of SpeedStars that I needed to break in this morning. I love running in new shoes.

I warmed up with a really easy .25 miles then set the TM to Hills 3.6% max incline, 8.2mph (7:19) and ran for an hour. Finished with a .55 mile cool down for a full 9 miles. The run felt great! I'm hoping to be able to do it at 9.0 for an hour on the same hill setting by Jan 1.

Wow! I haven't kept up on your blog. Looks like you are well on your way back to full strength. Great job healing up and having the patience to get through it.

AWESOME mp and hill run...on a MONDAY to boot! WOW!!! Keep up the good work. Going at 9.0 for an hour on the same hill by Jan 1 is a GREAT goal. I have confidence you will do it! You're so AWESOME!

Everybody - let me vouch for Rhett's love of new shoes. When I stayed at his house for the Havasu Half, he showed me the shoes he would be running Boston in. They were all packaged up in a tidy little box. I wasn't allowed to touch them, though. LOL. Just messing with ya Rhett.

Impressive workout!

Isn't the weather down there great this time of year? Why aren't you outside?

From Rhett on Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 16:16:46 from 74.42.168.210

Fly, the weather here is perfect for running outside. It was in the upper 60s this morning. Problem is my foot is still not 100% so I need the extra cushion of the TM and the controlled pace so I don't start running too fast.

From fly on the Wall on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 11:50:55 from 168.179.215.132

Ahh... The belt is keeping you at a nice and controlled pace.

You need a training anchor. That is someone to run with who will reel you in and slow you down if you start to speed up and run too fast. It might be tough to find a training anchor who can run as fast as your controlled pace, 7:19 at max incline for an hour- sheesh!

From Rhett on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 12:18:23 from 74.41.249.102

Incline was only 3.6% at the highest during the run. No way I could keep up that pace at the TM true max incline.

I was chatting with a couple older guys at the gym. One has a marathon PR of 2:37 and the other ran Boston in 2000 at 2:52. They are both around 50 and now are slower, but still speedy. I think I may start doing some runs with them. They will be perfect "training anchors".

From fly on the Wall on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 12:52:20 from 168.179.215.132

3.6% or max... minor detail :)

The RW age graded calc says the 2:37 when young guy could be a 2:55 guy at 50. And the 2:52 at 41 guy could be 3:06 at 50....
