Today I start getting serious about my UVM training.  I think my calf is finally 100%.  Unfortunately my running has seriously suffered over the last couple months with this stupid calf thing.  Since I have such a short time to get ready for the marathon, I've decided to implement my 3 day a week running plan that I did for Boston 2010.  This allows me to run hard on the days I run, and to cross train really hard the other days to boost my cardiovascular fitness.  Therefore my first day of my new marathon training plan today did not include any running. I swam this morning and I'll probably do some core work and jump rope tonight.

AM

16 x 200 m starting each interval on the five minute mark.  I probably averaged just under 3:40 per 200m.  Total swim- 2 miles

PM

jumping exercises making sure calf felt 100% and it did and some core work totaling about 20 minutes while watching the lame NCAA Championship game.  I did have Kentucky winning it all in my bracket though. :)

Thanks Paul, I read on Smooth's race report that you made an appearance at the race this weekend. Soon you'll be out there racing too.

Rhett~

My mom is having a PVR membranectomy this morning. I am very worried. In your experience do these surgeries usually go well?

From Rhett on Tue, Apr 03, 2012 at 10:30:48 from 170.215.58.122

Teena, what was the cause of the macular pucker that caused the need for a membranectomy? Most people not improved vision after the procedure, but whether or not it gets back to 20/20 often depends on how bad it is or what the cause was.

BTW Teena, I hope she does great.

Rhett~

She just got out of the procedure. The doctor said it went well. Sadly, it was a consequence of her diabetes (type II). Her sight has gotten so bad that all she sees is shadow-type figures. Plus, she is often in quite a bit of pain.

Teena, I'm glad to hear the doc said it went well. If it is from damage due to DM, she can probably only expect mild to moderate improvement, but every little bit helps. My father in law had the same thing done because of DM, and it at least restored some vision.

Thanks Rhett.

My understanding is that they did the surgery to prevent any degeneration of the macula. I was very worried because her overall health is not good. She is home now (so at least that makes me feel better).

Hope you have a great run tonight!! BE CAREFUL!!! No need to push the calf too hard. :)
