Four weeks ago I had dead legs and decided to take an easy week. Since then I have had 3 break through weeks in a row. I did my carb loading thing yesterday and boy was it nice to run on fully carbed legs today. My goal for the day was to simulate Boston as closely as possible and to do the first 18 miles with AP of 7:45 and the last 5 miles at MP 6:50. I did a course with the first 15 miles of rolling in hill then two mile with 4 decent hills in them which I named the Newton Hills of Havasu, then 5 miles of more downhill than up hill. I felt so stong the whole whay, probably because of the carb loading. I 6:02 too fast on the first 18 miles with an AP of 7:25 then I kicked it into gear for a strong MP paced finish with these splits on the last 5 miles:

6:31 mostly downhill

7:02 mostly uphill

6:49

6:40

6:33

For an AP of 6:43 on the last 5 miles

Total run 23 miles, AP 7:16

It was a great way to finish of my longest week ever. Now all I have left is to taper and hope I haven't over trained.

my friend - you are ready to go fast in Boston. DO IT!

Awesome run, Rhett... I know I always say that, but it's true. So what was your final time for the run? I'm too lazy to figure it out.

Rhett, looking good. You are so ready. Good job.

Thanks guys. I feel very confident right now, but there is always that little voice in the back of my mind saying it will be very hard to go sub 3 in Boston.

Dale, the total time was 2:47:02.

Rhett, you executed your 23 miler beautifully!!! You are SO SO SO READY to take that sub-3 in Boston. Have confidence in your hard work and training. Enjoy the taper. You running the Havasu 1/2? What's your plan for that final tune-up race?

From Rhett on Sun, Mar 29, 2009 at 22:54:44 from 216.67.216.116

Thanks Smooth. My plan for the Havasu 1/2 is to run it at MP. There are actually pacers for this race and one of the pace groups is the 1:30 hour group, so I think I will just run with that group and make it a goal not to get ahead of them.

Stay away from the soccer field! You're so ready for Boston!

From Rhett on Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 11:50:17 from 74.41.249.102

Marc, yeah thanks. I was just thinking about how I went out a played a soccer game 2 weeks before Boston last year after not having played in a game in a long time and how sore I was for a good week. That was stupid. It probably cost my at least a few minutes in Boston last year. This year I'm doing everything by the book.
