It was only 74 degrees when I awoke this morning, so I had to do another outside run.  I decided to do the same 8 mile run I did on Fri.  While running I realized this would be a good way to test RW's heat and pace theory.  I tried to run at the same effort level I did Friday, which I would say was at the hard end of Easy.  I ended up averaging 22 secs per mile faster when the temp was 20 degrees cooler.  There were other factors as well though.  I took water with me today and I ate before I ran today.  Friday I had no water, almost died, and I ran without eating before hand.  So while I was a bit faster in the cooler temp. (but not nearly as fast as RW's predictions) there were also other factors that helped me be faster.

Super job!

Awesome!!! How much different was the weight loss after this run compared to Friday's run?

Nice to disprove Runners World over-generalization.

I love seeing you enter miles!!

Nice job.

How did the talks go? Did you already comment on that?

Great job on the strong recovery. Your looking good. I can sure see the difference with the temps this morning on my run. Verses running them when it is 20-30 degrees hotter in the evening. Glad to see your recovering and back to running.

Dale, I only lost 2 lbs on this run compared to the 7 lbs (if I remember correctly) on Friday.

Teena, Doone gave a fabulous talk. Every time I see a member of the church the rave to me how great it was. Mine went well too.

Thanks everyone else. It is great to be a runner again. I'm amazed at how much more I get accomplished every day when I take some time to run.

8 miles and no mention of "foot" or "pain" :)

My casual observation is that the heat seems to be a bigger factor the faster I try to run. That is recovery pace isn't as slowed as tempos and intervals. And of course the longer I run the more I feel the heat until I get to a point where my body just slows itself way, way down. I presume this is some sort of nervous system defense strategy trying to avoid heat stroke.

Intuitively I also expect heats slowing effect is non linear. That is a 55 to 85 increase will not slow you down as much as an 85 to 115 increase.
