I was excited to get up and run this morning.  I've been walking 100% pain free and doing the eliptical pain free as well so I decided I was ready.  I headed over to a park with a big grass field that I could run around and started to run.  I took it easy, but was suprised at the amound of pain I had right from the start.  It wasn't anything like the sharp tearing pain I had during Boston, but it was much more than I anticipated.  I almost stopped right then, but decided to try and run just a bit more.  I ended up running 2 miles on grass and the pain came down some by the end, but I figured I shouldn't push it any more.  I then headed over to the gym and did 30 min eliptical, pain free.

2 miles  AP 7:24

I guess I'll wait and see how my foot responds for the rest of the day and tomorrow.  It's definitely not healed enough for any hard running.

Hmmm...maybe some aches and pains that need to be worked out. If it were me, I wouldn't try anything yet. I'd just relax and get fat.

From Andy on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 12:52:52 from 199.190.170.21

It sounds like you not quite ready for any running. Take it easy. There is no rush to come back. Of course, this is advice that I have ignored many times.

From RivertonPaul on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 12:54:00 from 67.42.27.114

I concur, take it easy, you stud.

From DonGardinero on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 13:11:04 from 75.162.185.50

I imagine the pain might be around for quite some time while you run. I hear those take a really long time to heal. I don't really have any suggestions, bit I think if I had that problem, I might start out with long, brisk walks up nice hills, but that's just me. Others may disagree, but I'm always overly cautious.

From Smooth on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 14:06:54 from 71.36.74.243

Rhett, looks like you know what to do. Keep the x-training going. Running will be sweet to you again...I hope soon! But then again, what's the hurry. Plenty of time before TOU and 11+ months before Boston.

From Rhett on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 16:18:15 from 170.215.58.122

Yep, you guys are all right. My foot is not ready yet. It is now 1:15 and it hurts pretty good to walk around the office. I hope it feels better tomorrow. Looks like I have at least one more week of cross training ahead of me. I really did enjoy my little run this morning though. I just hope I didn't set my healing back further.

From Teena on Mon, May 11, 2009 at 20:10:12 from 67.177.20.13

Rhett,

Glad you stopped when you did. Continue to be smart. We will be running in no time!! Right??

How is the pain this evening?

From huans32 on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 08:44:04 from 138.64.2.76

How is that foot of yours feeling today man??

From JeffC on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 11:27:49 from 167.207.128.101

Dude, it seems a bit too soon to be running on a tear like yours. Sounds like you better continue to take it easy for a while longer. Be patient, but like Andy said, easier said than done.

From rhett on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 11:51:10 from 170.215.58.122

Teena, Mark, Last night the pain was almost back to the point it was at right after Boston, plus I had this occasional sharp pain in my achelies tendon that was knew. That was really worrying me. This morning it feels a lot better, but is still uncomfortable. I even considered putting the boot back on this morning, but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Jeff, yep, I should have stopped after the first few hundred yards instead of going a full 2 miles. I'm an idiot.

From huans32 on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 11:57:33 from 138.64.2.76

Sorry to hear that man. With this foot of mine I would keep testing the water and pushing it. Mostly too hard and it would set me back a bit. Its good to test it but any signs of pain I would back off totally man. Let it heal up and you will be back at it. After what seemed like forever(actually only like 2-3 months). I was back up to running and now it feels much better. Best to rest and run again later.

From Kathie on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 15:10:40 from 207.155.176.10

Sounds like you at least learned your lesson! You will be back in no time. Keep working on that tan in the pool and you will rock TOU.

From Rhett on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 16:36:44 from 170.215.58.122

Thanks Mark and Kathie. I was feeling a bit down last night so I cheered myself up with a big bowl of ice cream. Now I feel fat and my foot still hurts. I need to come up with some sort of exercise plan for the next few weeks. I just get bored with everthing else but running.

From JeffC on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 18:16:37 from 167.207.128.101

Rhett..you're starting to sound like my wife. She hasn't run in over two months and is really starting to go a bit crazy. Hang in there man, enjoy the time off.

From Teena on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 20:03:18 from 67.177.20.13

Too bad you don't live close ... we could tether ourselves to the opposite ends of the pool and call each other on and run our hardest but get nowhere!!! :)

(I know what you mean Rhett ... boy do I know what you mean!!)

Hang in there!! This will pass. :)

Then we'll hit TOU training HARD!!! :)

From Burt on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 20:46:26 from 68.76.197.194

I have just done the physics to see how fast you would have to be running Teena to get nowhere. Assuming Rhett runs at a constant speed of 6:30 miles per minute, taking into account the drag created by the water, the mass of Rhett compared to your mass, the density of water being 62.4 lb/ft3, carry the one, you would have to be running at 56.7 mph.

From MarcE on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 21:56:10 from 206.225.68.52

Bummer about the pain coming back..I guess you'll just have to keep running in the water for a while longer.

From Smooth on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 22:05:23 from 71.36.74.243

This is off the subject. But I just notice your Havasu Half's bib # on your pic. With such a lucky number! OK, here's to your foot healing 88!!!

From Burt on Tue, May 12, 2009 at 23:47:45 from 98.167.151.26

Okay, this is off the subject, but why is #88 lucky?

From Teena on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:17:18 from 67.177.20.13

Burt!!!

You are a physics genius!!! :)

Oh man ... I have been laughing so hard!!!!

From Rhett on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:31:24 from 74.41.249.102

Burt, thanks for the good laugh. Teena I guess you would have to be running pretty fast so I wouldn't drag you around the pool. We could do like a tug of war thing. That would make water running more interesting. LOL

Smooth, if 88 is lucky I'll paint it on my chest as long as it gets me running again soon.

I did lower body weights last night and a spin class followed my some eliptical this morning. I'm tired of blogging my non-running.

From Teena on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:51:24 from 67.177.20.13

Rhett,

Force yourself to blog it anyway. I found that when I didn't have my blogging friends that it became much easier to fall into a miserable state. Hang in there. We have no choice. It's all part of this crazy game. :)

From Rhett on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 13:00:32 from 74.41.249.102

Thanks Teea. I was good for the first few weeks, but now that I know it is going to be a lot longer I'm starting to feel bummed. I blogged my work outs, but without much enthusiam.
