I had to write the final draft of my talk for tomorrow so I had to take my run outside today.  I haven't run outside for months.  I always write the final draft of my talks while running outside.  It is amazing how much more readily the thoughts flow during a nice good long run.  It took two drafts, but I finally got it right where I want it and am happy with the talk.  My run on the other had was not quite as easy.  I'd forgotten what it was like to run up those steep hills.  Before Boston, I was scampering up those hills like a deer.  Now I'm more like the litte train that barely could.

8 miles 1:07:43

Here is the "I'm an idiot" part of the report.  I was only going 8 miles so I figured I didn't need to take my fuel belt even though it was 91 degrees when I left and 96 when I got home.  That was a big mistake.  I did take a page out of Fly's book and stop at a park and wet my shirt around mile 5.  I did learn what my sweat rate with just over an hour of running in those conditions is since I didn't drink anything and I weighed myself right before the run.  I lost 7 lbs during the run.  So I guess it is like 112 onces per hour.  That's a lot.  I don't think I can drink that much.

And the "Interesting Fact" part of my report.  If you have the Garmin 405 and you let it sit for a few months without charging it, you loose all the memory, settings, history, etc.  and have to reprogram it before your run.  I spent about 10 -15 minutes getting it ready for my run this morning.  Next time I take an extended leave from running I'll charge my Garmin every few weeks.

Wow that is a lot of sweat, do you think it was because it was so hot?

What is the topic for your talk, and where are you giving it on a Saturday?

WOW, Rhett, multi-tasking while running in the heat and getting dehydrated. Amazing!!! That is a LOT of water loss. Did your foot behave during and after the run? Great job, except for not taking any fluids. LOL

Nice job Rhett...I love to plan my lessons on long runs. So...how is the foot feeling?

Thanks for the info on the garmine...but knock on wood I hope I never have to have a long stretch where I don't charge my garmin

Kathie, it is hot and I think I may sweat more than your average Joe. When I'm marathon training in the summer it is not uncommon for me to loose more than 10 lbs on a long run even with drinking a ton. I have to talk in stake conference tomorrow, but Doone has to talk in the General Session on Sunday. :) I think I got the better end of that on. Topic--Rescuing Souls

Dale, my foot felt fine. No troubles at all. I'll be sticking with 3 days a week for a while and cross training also.

Kimmy, foot still feels good. I'm trying to do all the ice massages and wear my orthotics a lot and all the other stuff I'm supposed to do. I hope it still feels good when the cortisone wears off.

8 miles!!! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!

According to my Physiology Prof. your body sweats more according to your fitness level ... and the sweat is more dilute! You must be in awesome shape!!!

Yes ... you got very lucky!! I had to speak in the Saturday night session of Stake Conference when a GA was there ... but that beats speaking on the Sunday session for sure!!!

Good luck to you both! Wish I could hear both of your talks.

Rhett - better you than me for giving a talk in Stake Conference. Nice sweating. I was down to 192 after my 12-mile run this week, but now I'm back up to 199!
