Jon, lower calf pain, right above the achilles, swelling in lower calf, achilles and foot, inability to stand on toes, pain walking, can't run. I think I overloaded the calf with this minimal shoe approach. It came out of nowhere during the run and I foolishly kept going. first calf problem ever and first problem ever on right foot. will wait a few days and see how it looks, but it may be the end of the season for me. I guess I could go to the doctor but I imagine the only solution is good old RICE which I am doing anyway. So much for relying only on the low profile/minimal shoe approach, at least for long miles, anyone doing this needs to watch their calves very closely and probably augment with weights and lots of calf strengthening/stretching exercises, even though I was stretching a lot.
I guess I could be more bummed. I am plenty busy at work right now anyway so if I have to take some time off from running it isn't the end of the world, but maybe it will be OK in a week or so. it is out of my hands now anyway, what is in the past is just a lesson for the future I guess.
