side show 5K to the Top of Utah marathon. Felt guilty I wasn't running the marathon, but not quite ready for that yet. There were a lot of people running but unlike last year when Paul, Cody and Joe ran there were no serious runners this year. So I was able to win the race, just due to the lack of depth. I am not sure about my exact time, I was hoping for 17:30 but I missed that by probably 15 seconds, but 17:47 felt pretty good. Carol Rowe finished second overall and first womens overall.

After the 5K Carol and I jogged up the course to run Cody in. Was super excited to see Paul way out in front at mile 20.5, cheered him on, didn't even look like he was sweating. He was a good 2-300 meters in front of one of the closest kenyan then. Jon Allen was not far behind in the top 5, awesome. Then Nan Kennard came by running really strong in the womens. Waited for Cody at mile 20, just back from Nan. Ran all the way back in with Cody and part of the way with Adam, felt really guilty because they had already run 20 miles yet here I am "encouraging" him, but probably just annoying him. But I sure had fun pretending i was an elite athlete running with these superheroes. I am not worthy but what the heck, I even got permission from the TOU organizers ahead of time to run back on the course to be sure I was legit.
Talked to a bunch of bloggers at the finish, a great day for the Cache valley and SLC bloggers.

Ran another 3 miles to cool down then went home. good day!!

A win's a win, so enjoy it! Plus, the trophy for this race is super-cool for a 5K (actually, it's better than the marathon trophies).

From redrooster on Sat, Sep 19, 2009 at 23:30:25 from 71.219.152.116

hey thanks everybody, I appreciate the kind comments! looking forward to bumping up to the marathon next year if my foot holds up. And Paul- you are right, the trophy is indeed way cool, the TOU people do a great job. Just wish I could have delivered on that 17:30 I promised you.

Awesome time and congrats on the win! It looks like you got in a good day of running besides. I think you're about ready for a great marathon time in Mesquite. Great job!

Congratulations on the win! The time is also encouraging. Shows you have the speed for a sub-2:50 marathon, it is just a matter of injury-free mileage overtime.
