threw caution to the wind and upped to 7, river trail to spring hollow. foot a little sore at the end, but I iced it fast. I really like these 790 trail flats Jason and Paul got me on to- I find it easier to negotiate the single track in them than in built up trail shoes like the montrail, because I get more response from the terrain and can adapt faster to avoid ankle turns. 7 miles in 54:50.

I really like those 790s - I don't think I'll be using my Asic GT-21XXs much any more - comfy, but my legs adapted to the 790s so easily, just walking in my old shoes seems foreign.

Jason, yeah, the 790 is awesome, it is really comfortable, it reminds me of the brooks T4 but with a better sole for rocks. I hope they don't discontinue it or change it- which will probably happen knowing new balance!

Great job! I have to order some 790s before they get discontinued....we all seem to have developed a footware fetish.

Saw your comment in Sno's thread, and just wanted to say that, from all that I've read, you are taking exactly the right approach. The foot arch is an arch, and like the arch of a bridge, needs no support from below. I went through a stress fracture, orthotics, the whole works, and am finally just back to running in regular shoes, with less support all the time. Took a Chi Running workshop and made some minor modifications in my stride. And, I'm experimenting with the barefoot thing!

auntiem, thanks for the note, your story sounds eerily similar to what I have just been through (stress fracture, tendonitis, physical therapy with the experts telling me to use arch supports, more cushioning, heavier shoes, longer strides etc). Born to run was an awakening for me, thanks to blogger rocinante who sent it to me! I also got the chi running book but think I would benefit from the video and/or the workshop. But I think I have the gist of it. Sounds like a new revolution of sorts is underway in running, it is exciting to be part of it! I look forward to seeing you hit some new PRs and hope you stay healthy! Scott
