I'm kind of breaking away from the normal use of this blog and decided to set up a recipe blog so anyone can see what exactly this crazy family eats every day. We are very consistent and dedicated to good health. We have a unique way of eating that has brought us health and happiness.

I feel kind of sheepish doing this but I think it will be helpful to alot of people.

The kids and I eat a little bit differently from Sasha. For now I'm going to just put what the kids and I eat because Sasha usually just eats oats, dates and nuts twice a day without much variation besides what I fix for snacks or lunch.

Breakfast:

Oats, Milk/soymilk, Homemade Granola(I don't think I have this recipe up but it's a very basic granola recipe with oats, agave, cinnamon, sunflower seeds, coconut and raisins.

Lunch:

Sloppy Joes (ground turkey, kidney beans) on Fresh Homemade Bread

sides: Buckwheat and organic baby carrots

Dinner: Freedom Fries (pan fried potatoes...this recipe is on Healthy Recipes) with organic ketchup (can't remember the brand right now but it is from our local Health Food Store) I have made my own ketchup and have a recipe posted for it but it doesn't taste the same as store bought and I really do prefer that taste.

sides: sliced apples (Frugal note: I bought a box of these apples at a store called NPS in Salt Lake City that sells about to go past their date food for cheap. I got 40 pounds of apples for $10)  

In the summer I will go and pick fruit from my neighbors trees that they aren't eating and serve this to my kids with meals or for snacks.  We have a garden and eat out of there in the summer too. This year the garden may not be as fruitful because of crazy weather. I don't plant a huge garden but I do a little bit of gardening.

Breakfast: Oats w/ soymilk or milk (the girls and I do milk, the boys are lactose intolerant and drink soymilk) topped with homemade granola.

Lunch:

Whole wheat angel hair pasta (I buy Heartland brand from Wal-mart...much cheaper than the health food store brand and satisfactory quality) Homemade spaghetti sauce with sauteed mushrooms. The kids and I top this with Parmesean cheese

sides: homemade bread with butter/honey/jam/garlic (sasha likes his with honey and garlic...yuck) organic baby carrots

Dinner: Homemade Pizza (it must be Italian day) Sasha likes his without cheese. I put plenty of cheese on top for me and the kids. Sometimes I buy chicken sausage from Costco for a yummy pizza topping.

Even though we eat the same breakfast day after day I guess I just want people to see that that's really what we do. I vary our breakfast sometimes but if I make granola we definitely enjoy eating that. That is one way to keep things cheaper. Keeping your recipes simpler gives me more time to have a little bit of a life outside the kitchen and things are a bit cheaper that way. I do, however, try to provide variety for the health benefits I think it brings.

Breakfast: Rolled raw oats with soymilk/milk and homemade granola.

Lunch: Revisted Homemade Cheese Pizza

We almost always just drink water with our meals. I'll let my kids have milk if they ask for it but I'm into simple. Sometimes I make homemade rootbeer with rootbeer flavor and agave to sweeten. I love rootbeer....I also make it into popsicles for later. I also often buy fresh limes and squeeze some into some water with a bit of agave. Mostly I push water because it's free.

Dinner: Steamed Salmon w/ Red potatoes ( I'll add dill and olive oil to the steamed potatoes and some dill and braggs liquid aminos-similar to soy sauce- to the salmon)

sides: cucumbers/watermelon

Dessert: Fresh homemade cinnamon rolls (I've been using my Bosch alot this week. I make these rolls with my same basic bread recipe only add butter and fructose and cinammon)

I thought I'd make note of the groceries I bought this week. This is partly for me to see what we buy and how often.

Costco:

2 pounds Salmon, 10 pounds red potatoes, 2 gallons milk, 1 bag tortilla chips, 1 bag rice chips(for the barbeque), 1 pound blackberries, 1 pound blueberries, 2 cases soymilk, 2 loaves whole wheat bread, 1 box of organic raisin bran, 1 carton natural omega eggs, 1 case pull-ups.

Reams: 1 watermelon, 1 cantelope, 1 honedew melon, 2 cucumbers, 4 small cartons cottage cheese.

Good Earth: 5 pounds fructose

Breakfast: Raw rolled oats and granola with soymilk/milk

sides: honeydew melon

Lunch: Creamy Split Pea Soup ( I put the typical carrots, onions, celery jazz in and then blend it in the blender to make a very delightful soup on a cold June day)

Sides: baby carrots/ salsa fresca rice chips

Dinner: Creamy Pea Soup...five hours old....

A couple of my kids only got one of the cinnamon rolls I made yesterday so I woke up and made a fresh batch this morning....the magic of a Bosch...awww... They still ate the soup after stuffing their little faces on sweet rolls. Joseph who rarely eats thirds asked for thirds of soup. He loves green and I guess that's why he wanted more green soup. :)

Breakfast: Granola , granola, granola...we are almost out of it and I actually am getting tired and had a bowl of raisin bran this morning. I think I'll try cooking oatmeal next week if I can get organized. The kids wake up right when I'm done running and want to eat right away.

Lunch: Mashed Potatoes

I boil red potatoes whole. I leave the skins on partly because I'm lazy and partly because I like them. I leave a bit of potato water in them for mashing and add olive oil and salt to taste. Sometimes I get fancy and sprinkle some parsley on top. The kids eat it with organic ketchup and Sasha sprinkles flaxseed crackers on top.

I put a spoonful of veganaise and a dash of garlic powder on the salad and my kids gobble the salad up. Don't tell them about the garlic.

Dinner: Turkey Sandwiches

sides: grapes, rice chips, cookies (from good earth they were on a sale for an amazing price....I should go back and get a case!)

We are going to eat it picnic style at the Stake Bar B-Q.They don't usually serve super healthy food at these functions and we try to just bring our own "cool" stuff so the kids don't feel bad. I like hamburgers but am happy not to eat them most of the time.

Breakfast: Oatmeal w/ blackberries and blueberries on top.

Lunch: We are getting free sack lunches at a BYU play my kids got tickets too at the library. I'll take out the cookies and give them the sandwiches, fruit and water...I'll probably bring some more of those cookies I got from Good Earth.  

Dinner: TBA
