1:30pm 2Chronicles 36 - Nehemiah 6

10 miles at the Y. We're cancelling our membership at the end of the month to save some $ so I wanted to make use of the hot tub this weekend. Strange that I would even want to do that after my experience at Greatwolf. Funny that while I was sitting in the hot tub after my run, a guy with a very scary rash all over his chest and back decided to join me. It probably wasn't anything contagious, but it did bring out my inner Monk and made me want to leave. I don't think I'm going to miss it as much as I thought now :)

9:00am Nehemiah 7 - Job 18

Ran from home to the Y in Puyallup. Lots of hills and a headwind the whole way! Kym met me there with a sub sandwich, bananas, chocolate milk, and powerade. I enjoyed a nice little feast before soaking in the hot tub for a while. This run was tough after yesterday. Tomorrow should be interesting; the plan is to run tomorrow and Wednesday, then take two days off as usual before the 15k on Saturday.

4:00am Psalms 10-49

Early start today. I need to be in Seattle by 8:00am for a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure seminar. The miles felt a lot easier today and my heart rate was nice and low. I'm ready to race. I just wish the forecast looked better for Saturday... 40°, windy, and rainy, yuk!

Warmup run to the race start. Very windy! This was a very discouraging start to my morning. However, I was very thankful that it wasn't raining.

9:00am

Still not raining, but the wind is blowing really strong. The windchill would have been unbearable if it was raining like expected. The first half was mostly into the wind and the only thing that gave me any hope for a PR was having that wind at my back after the turnaround. I managed to keep under 7 min miles all the way out. It was such a hard effort I couldn't help but imagine myself walking part of the way back. Thankfully that never happened. When I got to the turnaround the entire group that I was keeping pace with continued on for the 15 mile course. I was on my own for the second half of the 15k race except for passsing the runners still on their way out. There was one guy about 100 yards behind me and the 10th place guy was about a quarter mile ahead. I wasn't able to close the gap on #10 at all, even tough I was running faster than in the first half. It was hard to muster up a kick without anyone to chase down at the finish. Somehow I turned out a 5:47 pace for the last .3 and finished with a new PR by over a minute.
